Default Crow

200yds? Boy I bet that crow was surprised.

What are you using for loading depth distance from ogive to lands? 0.05" or something else?

I just wanted to compare your depth off the lands with what I have used hopefully to improve my accuracy.

This brought back a memory. Years ago after I bought and played with a 17 Squirrel, my good friend Rem (who is now deceased) purchased a Cooper 17 Squirrel.

I forget where we was at but IIRC we was laying on the ground in Wyoming (I think Ray H and John may have been shooting off a bench or off the hood of a pickup). I was spotting and Rem was trying out this little 17 Squirrel for the first time (with 20 gr vmax). After nailing a few dogs and shooting farther and farther I said that one was like 200 (or maybe it was 300 now that I think about it) yards. Ole Rem rolls to his side a little bit, pulls up one side of his hearing protection and with a big ole grin and a twinkle in his eye he said, ya know.... (pausing like he often did) this thing is right on the heel of a 17 AH!

It was a priceless memory and the awe he had that day for how something so small could accurately do its job at extended distances.

Kind of wishing I had told his wife that I’d like to buy that rifle, mostly for that memory!

Gary that was at 300 yds, made me get one. That week we hunted with Ryan he was popping them at 275 to 300+ all day. He'd twist that knob on the scope and say '' that'll be about right" and kill it. On my hunts I always take the first shot for our buddy Rem.

LOL I couldn’t remember the distance Ray, but the memories of Rem’s look on his face and reaction was priceless as well as the performance of such a neat little round!

Very nice that you take the first shot in memory of Rem.

Gary,

If you keep doing this to us I'm going to be required by pure logic to go and have a .17Squirrel made up for myself.

As luck would have it though , my 17vha can he downloaded and get similar results. Whew, man I skinned out of that somehow with my wallet somewhat intact. I'll just need a 17Squirrel barrel instead.

Hutch

LOL! Hey now... it’s really not me, I didn’t start this thread! Lol

It’s those fun little 17s that are causing the attraction. But this thread did bring back some very fond memories. I’ve got myself wantung to get one of my 17 squirrels out now!

I load my hand loads with the 20 Vmax jamming in the rifling....

and then you jam them into those poor little squirrels....LOL.

and I wish I was up there chasing those Beautiful Fox Squirrels with you.... Got my share of old memories as well.

If I had a 17 squirrel... I'd ask for a visit up there... but... only got a 20 VT... but a 17 could easily be put into the works...Hmmm....
