Default Remington 700 Single Shot Action Question

Those of you that have used the Remington 700 Short Action Single Shot Action for smaller cases such as 20 Vartarg. are there any feeding problems since the bottom of the receiver is made for a 308 sized case? I know the bolt has to be replaced.

Thanks Dave

Dave , since you're replacing the bolt, get a coned bolt and you're good to go.

Will I have any issues if I use a stock Remington bolt?

Default Rem single shot

I bought a Rem XR100. Can’t remember, it was a 223 or 204R. Had a gunsmith put on a new shilen varmint contour barrel chambered in 20 VT.
I feeds the 20 VT cartridge just fine, but I had to have a Sako extractor installed to get it to eject the fired empty.

Guess I better be looking into coned bolts and possibly mini M16 or Sako extractors. That's why I thought I better ask first instead of buying twice. I thank all that have answered so far. I don't like wasting money that could be used on another build just because I made a mistake.

Dave I shoot a 20 Boomer in a SA 700. I fitted a LA single shot follower , it needs a lot of shaping but fills the entire magazine opening. It has a Kiff cone nose bolt with sako extractor. It feeds the short 20 Boomer case great. Kiff's cone nose bolts are a great deal.

Ray H,

At the risk of creating more work for myself what is the 20 Boomer based on?

Dave, "might" have been a mistake asking Ray about the 20 Boomer!! I asked him what a 20 Javelina Improved was once (another of Ray's designs). I now have one...LOL! In all seriousness one of the best most efficient (the 20 JI) case I've built. On about one grain more H-4198 powder, it leaves the the 20 VT in the shade (about 200 fps faster with 32 grainers)! 410gauge

Uh Oh. I get myself into more trouble asking questions. I seem to lack willpower when it comes to giving new cartridges new homes.
