I have a 1894CL Marlin 218 Bee and is a sub-MOA shooter with good reloads, so I think the accuracy trend is pretty clear. Given the low recoil, I seriously doubt that a hard cup primer Rem 7 1/2, Federal 205AR a plastic tip would be an issue. Not to mention that the rim and case taper would help keep the bullet tip off the primer of the forward cartridge. That said, I've never taken the risk in my rifle.

Hi Johno,
I hope all is well on your end. I have one in 218 Bee and just shoot one bullet, the 45gr Hornady XTP Bee bullet, one powder- AA2015, 16.0grs and a COL of 1.670". Powder fills the case to the point where I am unable to seat the bullet deep enough to crimp, which in turns resolves the issue of bullet set back with the tubular magazine, simply cannot compress the powder any further. Accuracy parallels above reports of sub-MOA. Velocity is around 2700fps. Using other powders where seating deep enough to crimp has not given me the same accuracy. Perhaps somewhat of different approach with this rifle/cartridge combination, but it works well. All the best. Michael. |

Fair go fellas, is there really a need to put poor old Johno through the wringer, he is after all on a no more guns trend these days, it was no more builds, but the old scally wag got around that rule by importing parts and calling it a reconstruction.

Hi johno
Hi mate two marlin 1894 rifles came up on used guns about 12 months ago one in 218 bee and one in 2520 win both from the same bloke who lives not far from me I rang him and he said they both shot well but the 218 was best for accuracy and that was about 1.5in at 100m they wear both like new but out of my budget
(Around $2000-$2200 if I remember ) and they both sold in a few days he told me he was selling because he had bought two sako bolt actions one in 2520 and the other in 218 (lucky bugger ) I have only owned leaver action rifles in 44mag 454casull 3220 win 3030 win and (308win browning mod 81 ) and all except the browning would not shoot much better than 2" at 100m which I think is fine You should import one and post how you go with accuracy I would like to know It is on my bucket list to have one in 218 one day Cheers mate |
