I very rarely visit Cabelas any more.
But did tdy, Rogers, Mn. Saw a Rem 700 classic in 221 fb, in the gun library. May be new. Asking a little over$2 grand.

That it is, but I sure would not pay that inflated price.

Dang...

I bought two of them when they were introduced. Can't remember what year that was, but I know I had to wait about a year after I ordered them before they actually shipped. Can't remember exactly what I paid, either, somewhere around $550 each?

Turned one into a .17 Mach IV without even shooting it first. Still have it and it's still a favorite.

The other, I kept for awhile as a .221. Had the worst factory chamber job I've ever seen. Just unspeakably bad. Had it set back and rechambered and it couldn't even be set back quite far enough to clean up the old bad chamber and leave enough shoulder on the barrel. I think he was able to take 3/8 off the back and that still wasn't enough to clean up all of the original chamber.

But, after the rechamber, that was the most accurate "factory" rifle I ever owned. Never used it much though. Loved the Mach IV too much more. So I sold it - with the unfired factory barrel from the Mach IV. The rechambered barrel wasn't clocked right and just looked kind of funny. Even knowing how great it shot, I knew it wouldn't sell as well as the unfired, un-altered factory barrel. I still have that rechambered .221 barrel on the shelf.

Anyway... Neat, neat rifle. But that price. Oh, my...

Default 221 fb

Forgot to mention, I bought one used, but like new. Was very accurate. But I came across a Sako A1 action and had a custom built on that action, Shilen barrel and McMillan Sako hunter stock. It’s a very nice proportioned and accurate rifle. Then I sold the Rem.

I am going to get one or two Douglass barrels, ready to headspace. Around $450. People are nuts.
