Default 22 hornet, trim?

Do 22h cases need trimming?

Only if they are too long... Sorry I couldn't resist.
The thin construction of the brass can lead to stretching by a dragging expander ball and over-sizing. My 17 AH was problematic until I switched to a collet sizer.

They put a minimum and maximum length on all cartridges for a reason. If the go beyond the maximum they can cause pressures to raise, so yes they need trimmed if necessary.

After initial fire forming, I only neck size my 22 Hornets, and they don't seem to need trimming. I do segregate the brass to the rifle and don't mix them between rifles. I have four Hornets and the chamber sizes in them vary quite a bit, so that was the reason the segregate the brass. Also, 22 Hornet brass all vary in capacity, depending on the maker, so watch what brass you are planning to use.

Spot on. I do exactly the same and I have never had to trim Hornet brass.

A chamber plug in the neck of a shortened/trimmed cartridge will tell you if any cartridge needs to be trimmed in a specific rifle.

Like most things, chambers are not created equal in terms of the max length of the case neck in all rifles. As a result, neck trimming might be needed for one 22 Hornet rifle but not for another.

Hence, even though a cartridge exceeds SAAMi max OAL, it may not need to be trimmed in the specific rifle that it is used in. If its not trimmed, a shooter needs to keep that brass segregated for use in only that specific rifle.

I don't have any 22 Hornets but I have a couple 17 Hornets and the above is pretty close to exactly how I do things with them.

I have these chamber length gauges from Sinclair in pretty much all the calibers I shoot although I don't recall ever using one in my 17 Hornets.

Same here. The most # of times I have fired a case, though is only 14 or 15 times. Those, I converted to .17AH and they are still doing fine. They (RP) have been annealed once. The new WW's needed annealing after fireforming to .17AH. I found that interesting that the RP's had been fired 14 times with LG and over 3,300fps in the .22Hornet, yet after necking and fireforming to .17AH only needed annealing for the first time ever, after being reloaded & fired as a .17AH.
Still no trimming necessary. They have just not grown. Might be due to the fairly tight CZ .22 Hornet chamber & the AH chamber I cut with a Pacific reamer?
