Default Smokeless Muzzleloaders

I just bought Richard Franklins DVD on building a SML on a Rem700 action and was curious if anyone here ran SML for deer or other larger animals?

I have a stock savage smokeless ml that I originally planned to have rebarreled with a Pacnor barrel. But after shooting it, I don't have much need to rebarrel unless I was wanting a smaller caliber barrel. I shoot the .458 Hornady 325 grain FTX bullets with the Harvester CR sabots. It does shoot like a rifle.

I am going to build mine around the .416 bullets that Parker now offers. I think I am going to make this on a McGowen barrel though. Adam

Default one of each.

I had a Remington done up recently with a .45 cal pacnor barrel. All set to shoot, and hope to test it this weekend. My brother laid claim to that gun and so I am just finishing it up for him to shoot.

I have a Savage that is currently unmodified but I have a .45 cal pacnor barrel for it to put on and I intend to do just that before our early season starts in just a few weeks. It shoots well as a .50 but it is quite a thumper and I hope to reduce the recoil to a level that suits my children better. I will try to get some pics of the Remington, it is quite nice.

Default Smokeless

Jim,

If you decide to leave the 50cal barrel on your savage for the kids try a 250gr
Bullet with 40grs of AA5744 and you could even go smaller with a 50\40
200gr Have not tried the 50\40 myself but I hear the Savage likes that combo

If I remember you were using bunch of VV-N120 and a 300gr bullet
And you are 100% correct That load is a "Thumper" even to a grown man

A guy can sure go through a pound of VV-N120 in a hurry
Thats why I'm keeping mine for the Cooper 17AH

Default I have a bunch

I've got plenty of n120 and n110. and yes, a stiff load of n120 and a 300 grain bullet is a thumper. I've got some 250 grain xtps and other powders to try but have already bought the .45 cal pacnor barrel.
