Loads chronied at 4,060 according to my notes. Primers were indeed 7 1/2 Remington. Never tried the CCI450's on my shelf with this load but a harder cup primer in this case seems like I'd be trying to avoid the root cause rather than fix the issue. Thanks for running it in QL. Looks like I need to take the foot off the gas a bit. IMR4198....very interesting. Wonder how Hodgdon's version would work? Read a lot about IMR4320 being a great powder, but trying to avoid buying another powder for an already cluttered cabinet. Anyone ever try W748? Hodgdon lists it one step slower than IMR4320 in their burn rate chart..... |

My CZ shoots Ramshot Tac and a 25 gr Vmax very well. I've used Big Game with good results but obtain the best from Tac (big game was a compressed load).

Update
Just an update and a problem solved. Most burn rate charts showed IMR4320, a popular choice for the 17 Remington, and W748 next to each other. So I started LOW on W748 at 21 grains with a 25 hollow point and sooted cases. Worked up to 23.5 grains where pressure signs started appearing. 22.5 was best accuracy and a solid 3,950 fps out of my 26" barrel, much higher speed than manuals projected. Solidified my suspicions that this particular rifle runs about 100-150fps faster than manual's posted speeds and starts building excessive pressure well below their max listed loads. Yet another great reminder for ME to ALWAYS start low and work up safely and trust the chrony! No two guns are the same.

powder > 17Remington
The only bullet I shoot is the discontinued BERGER 25gr.
My CZ527 pet load uses H4895 with REM brass @ 4100 fps When my COOPER arrived I went with NOSLER brass to avoid brass mix-ups and used H4895 but couldn't get past 3950 fps without tight bolt lift. - both rifles are very accurate with H4895 - I believe the COOPER has a "tight neck chamber" and pressures up very quick. Earlier this summer I started experimenting with other powders in the COOPER and found N203B (supposedly same burn rate as RL15) was not only slightly more accurate but the SD reading was lower. I havn't adopted a pet load recipe todate as I've been busy and coyote season is still way-off. Rigth now i'm favoring N203B powder for the COOPER. I won't touch the CZ527 load with H4895 since I have alot of powder in stock and it's a winner @ 4100 fps Last edited by AlbertaAl; 08-10-2016 at 12:56 PM. |

17 rem powders
I have loaded for several 17Rems and still have some. The only powder I have used is 4320, with 20 and 25 grain bullets.

My main load using a 25gr. hp is 23.9gr. of IMR8208. IMR4320 is my back up powder load.

Yep! I shoot IMR 4320 in mine with the Hornady 25 gr HP's and it does just fine.

Searching for accuracy not speed and lowest SD numbers. 25 years ago my first 17Rem was a SAKO varminter and I remember shooting 25gr Hdy. bullets using imr4320 with extreme accuracy. Last edited by AlbertaAl; 08-10-2016 at 12:57 PM. |

I had one Many,Many Many Beers ago and had access to every powder made at that time (mid/late 80's) IMR 4320 was the go2 powder BUT mine shot best with 2520 and had the Highest velocity and lowest SD
