Update
I met the seller, Jim, and the story is rifle was his father in-law's, who has since past. Jim and his father in-law were both competitive F-class shooters and hunted all over the country. Father in-law built it to shoot prarie dogs in New Mexico. It has been sitting in a closet for some time.
Sako L461 chambered in 17-222 and asking $800. The figured walnut stock is by Fajen, but it has some scratches and minor dings. It will need refinishing. Rifle came with Sako high scope rings and Leupold 10x Target scope. I estimate the value for these at approx. $300...so $500 for the rifle was to good to pass up. Apparently, the widow was concerned about the reloading equipment when she went to sale the house. She called the fire department to disposed of all the reloading equipment (powder, primers, bullets, and dies), which totaled 600 lbs of gear. Jim wished she had called him before she did this... Thank you, that looks like it was worth every cent you paid. I like the looks of that stock, cheek piece and forearm. Bill K

Still sleeping on the couch?
Well that is certainly a hotty of a rifle, it is simply a wonderful looking rifle and stock. You got a great deal, even if it had been $1200.

Well, since no one here has the intestinal fortitude to tell you the truth I’ll help you out. The 17 triple deuce will be the biggest mistake of your life. That will be hard to see right now but I’m telling you from experience, you need to get out from underneath it as quickly as she can. I wouldn’t do this for just anybody, but if you want to box that thing up and send it to me i’ll get you the money that you paid for it plus another hundred dollars to seek some counseling as we may have caught this before the disease cripples you got life.
I have one on a Rem 700 and it likes the 25 gr vmax making nice hits on PDs out to 500 yards. Mine is wearing a varix lll w/vhr. It’s a tight neck G model. Don’t remember how I formed cases but it’s easy. I let a friend shoot it one day while I left to go get permission to shoot on the other side of the fence and when I returned he had the bolt lugs galled up. I never did figure out why buy BCB might be on to something. Wasn’t too bad, the original Smith was able to get it repaired. Good luck and don’t say I didn’t warn ya lol

As Gary mentioned.......
.....the "G" model 17-222.....the first one.
I built this PD rifle, some years back, on a factory Sako L461 single-shot action. It works verrrrrrrry well! Friend Of The 17 Kevin |
