Looks like a fun lady. You've gotta teach her to get that fuse lit first time though! That's a major lesson that was drummed into me while blasting rocks with stick powder. Unlit fuse and going back in to find out why it didn't go off is how people get blown up.

So, explain a bit about these pop can shooters.

Hope her "finger gun" is different than the last two I've had stuck in my face with loud verbal expressions". "xxxx xxx EVICT ME!!" As if they didn't think I was up to the challenge! Second day on the first time, three hours the last one.

Glad you're both having fun, that's what counts most. Be safe doing it though.
Thanks for sharing.

Did they flip, that's the thrill of first time shooters, right?
Amazing how a head shot can make some flip several feet even when down in the hole with just eye balls showing to make a "Fine" shot. Then there's others that just tip over with the same hit.

I think that may have a lot to do with the tension they're in when hit. I had one about 200yds at T+ that kept ducking up n down on me. I just aimed and held knowing before long he'd get brave n stay up a few seconds longer. Sure thing, flipped him 4' in the air. Until then I wasn't aware the mgr and half dozen others had been watching me from the barn with binocs. At shot they cheered. Pretty soon the mgr came out to where I was sitting and wanted to know how I could make such a fine shot with so little head showing. Handed him the rifle with a 20x glass. That got his attention.
For fun n games I told him: "hey, there's one sunning himself on the mound". Funny expression when he realized it was headless. Gates locked now and very few ponies in the pastures. Wonder what's cooking.

Always a thrill to teach women n kids how to shoot then see them make great shots like that, isn't it?

The finger gun.

She did not want a picture of it, she said her nails needed done. She has complained about there being no nail shop in Cut Bank. She also has complained about how loading magazines chips her polish and breaks her nails. I can live with that.

Neat...and 3 spare barrels folded underneath, in case the top one gets too hot.
Thanks,Ken.

They are made by Dominick Carpenter. http://www.blackpowder-cannons.com/

Both shoot popcans full of cement or zinc round balls I get from Rotometals. http://www.rotometals.com/category-s/77.htm

The large one is one he built me several years ago. It is a heavy 92 lbs and a "one of".

The smaller one is his kit mortar.

http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/blackpo...dom-dictator!/

By far my favorite cannons Dom makes are his swivel breech firecracker cannons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBTmF-BeNWw

Load two firecrackers in the barrel fuse to the rear, light one fuse, second firecracker is launched fires in the air. Bottle rockets work better as the "projectile"

You won't find the pop-can or firecracker cannons listed on his website, you have to ask for them.

We have 6 of his firecracker cannons in the family.

That one sure won't get lost when she drops it in the mud!
Thanks for the cannon info.
Would be "another" project, as if I need more added to the list.
Years ago I picked up a few sections of drill stem with a 1 1/2" bore.
Thought I'd make some cannons out of it. Gave one piece to a gunsmith
never heard any more about it.

One was 6' long, at least two about 3-5' long. all the same, 3/4" thick walls.
Would make a dandy "small cal cannon".
I've never done anything with it yet. May never get around to it now.

Since I recently taught Rider how to run the lathe, maybe he'd be interested in making one. Hint hint!

Drill stem makes some real poor cannons. Right class of steel--4140 or close/similar there to. Bores are not concentric or straight. Steel has be annealed before it can be worked. Even then when you try to machine used drill stem you run on to some really odd spots. Then you still have the issue of welding the trunnions on. 4140 can be welded, it just take special care to do it and annealing again after welding.

Minimum safety guidelines for cannon of the American Artillery Association and the North South Skirmish Association call for 1 caliber wall thickness around the chamber. So a 1 1/2" bore needs a 1 1/2" wall thickness or a total diameter over the breech of 4 1/2".

4140 class steel can well handle the pressures of black powder with 3/4 inch wall, but after being machined into a cannon, how do you tell just by looking what kind of steel was used, thus the 1 caliber guideline.

Oh and this advice about the list of projects-you must have a list of projects you have to do. If not "she" will make you a list of projects "she" wants you to do! Let's see, paint the bedroom, paint the cannon....
