The comments are hilarious! Some people put the welfare of animals before humans. Vegetarians wouldn't do well in a third world country.

I think I'll send em this picture, I'm sure it'll be ok cause those are jackrabbits and beings how I don't eat jack-rabbits I fed the coyotes with em. Bunny-huggers seem to have a weird affinity of some sort with the apex predator in any ecosystem so they'll dig this picture I'm sure.

Another old guy story but when I was a kid I use to raise rabbits and sell em cleaned and skun to the local grocery store that would then resell em for (God forbid, "FOOD" ). Different times back then. Today not only would PETA throw a fit but the Feds'd skin you and the store owner both!!
I love rabbit and I hope it drives the bunny-huggers "MAD "!!!

Pete,

I heard about the Easter Bunny shoot while down in NZ several years ago. Gotta love the title/play on words. One thing about Easter in NZ, the Cadbury Eggs are made with full cream milk and put the ones on this side of the big pond to shame in addition a wider variety of flavors. All Cadbury chocolate is not created equal.

Doug,

My wife has a recipe for white chicken chili, we usually use jackrabbit and have taken it to church potlucks. The hardest part was convincing folks that is wasn't turkey after they told my wife and I how much they enjoyed the turkey chili and would like the recipe. Debone, cut into 1 inch square or smaller pieces, soak in salt water overnight, then bread or flour it and fry in hot skillet or put in stew or chili. Seriously, give it try.

Michael.

Guess I've missed the real story on this deal. Wasn't in the local papers yet.

Doug: Man those are fat jacks! No wonder you use "high powered rifles" on 'em.

Cousin in SLC fed us some baked jacks a couple times while visiting. I thought they were decent chow, one was a bit tough but, Del said that was the bigger older one he was going to toss til his wife said not to. Still had decent flavor.

As a kid I recall the folks buying us all rabbit dinners at a nice restaurant here.
And rabbit being on sale at Safeway. I've wondered for many years why we can't buy it in the markets these days.
Maybe we should all start asking Kroger and Safeway to start selling it too.

Sorry kids - no egg hunt next Easter.

I caught the little 'blighter' near the end of March, last spring.

Very clever. Use the basket to carry the bunny. Is your jacket red and sport a hood.

Great one Daryl LOL !
As to eating jacks, I sure would if at all hungry but why eat jacks with local cottontails ? Those are some good looking recipes though, work well for jacks and young rockchuck too. In my younger days I ate near every thing I could shoot. Real fond a squirrel as well but not our little pine squirrels. Domestic rabbit though is a real delicious treat that makes a lot better dinner than it does a pet IMHO.
