Default Condemn Simmons?

Here's another instance of great warranty by Simmons.

Years ago I had a K-4 that quit after about 40 years and 10,000 rnds under it.

Bought a Simmons 3-9, not sure what model it was.
Let a guy use the gun for a CMP match and put the scope on just before he moved to Wis.
When I started to use the gun, the tube had been mashed by him over tightening the rings.
Sent it back asking what it would cost and what happened.
They sent me a new .44Mag 4-10x N/C.

Just had the gun worked on, new barrel and such, two different 'smiths had worked on it since it was fired.
Trying to zero it and the top turret was locked up tight.
Mailed it back for: "repair/replace".

Today, I rec'd a new Bushnell 3-9 Trophy, don't know much about this model yet.
Again, No Charge. Box tag says: Vista Outdoors, Olathe, KS.

Sure can't complain about this kind of warranty even if they're el cheapo scopes as many of you say.

Glass looks nice n clear, need to mount it now and get it zeroed.

This time I told them in a letter with the bad scope: "This is going on my .300Win/m."

WOW, that is good customer service! I never heard of a Mfg switching brands to solve an issue. A simmons to a bushnell sounds okay to me...

Yeah, except if you adjust for inflation, I bet the K4 cost 20 times as much as the Trophy. I've seen the Trophy go brand new for $59. It's a toy. And that is being nice about it.

Kind of an insult, shipping it out to a man to put on his .300 Win., if you ask me. Clueless or just mean spirited.

If that's what passes for awesome customer service these days, we're all just screwed...

THink I paid $30 for the K-4 back in '58.
You might be right.
I have no clue about the Trophy. Never seen one before.
Seems clear and heavier than the .44 mag aluminum that failed.

We'll see how it turns out. IF it holds up to the recoil and stays
like it is now I'll be happy. Very likely I won't get back to elk hunting
again anyway. IF Jack gets his van engine replaced and nothing else
takes a dump. Might get out next week and we'll get to the range.
I have 7 guns to break in. Five new and two rebarreled in the past year.

Can't do a whole lot of shooting in the shop in town at 12 feet to the trap.
Test loads and check the brass is about it, make sure things work is the main
thing.

I try to keep it down to about a dozen shots at a time.
Don't want to draw flies over neighbors calling in a "shots fired" call.
Roo much of that here as it is.
Didn't expect it, but, Rider refused to shoot even once out there.

Thanks for the input on the scope.

I still have a couple Simmons 6.5-20X44mm, m44mag scopes along with a 6-18X32mm pro-hunter that have been doing service since 2002 - without any problems. They're on or have been on .22RF 10-22, bolt guns, .17AB, .22 Hornet and .17AH rifles only.
The old 6.5-20X44mm mil dot scope has mil dots too large in diameter to be of much use for rat shooting. I do not know the size of the mil dots in the newer Simmons scopes.

Daryl:

I saw an ad in Midway's flyer for those 6.5-20x 55mm.
Check yours, I've never seen this power with 44mm though.
If they made them that size I'm unaware of it is all.

For the price I got one and it looked so good the next time the
price was the same I bought 3 more. All for the varmint rifles.

What impressed me most was they focus down to 30 feet in all
power settings. I don't recall shooting any yet except in the shop
at the trap so far. Haven't been to the range or hunting anything
for so long.

They're on: NEF 17 VR, Cooper 17 VR and 20 VT, Sako .223

Cheers!

Well hell, guess I won't find out how good or bad this Trophy is now.

The tube is 1/4" too short to go between the mounts of my rifle.

Just sent them an e'mail requesting replacement with one with a
longer tube. We'll see now what comes next.

Extension rings ought to cure that issue.

I don't know anything of Simmons never having owned one but I have had about 3 or 4 Bushnell's I purchased for frugal .22 optics $29.95 ish for 3X9 Scope Chiefs for 10-22's over the years long past as memory serves. The one I have now is the 4X12 Bushnell Trophy and I paid a bit under a hunskey and a half for it a while back on the recommendation of the seemingly knowledgeable young man at "Airguns of Arizona".
I bought it to go on the big RWS Model 48 side cocking springer he sold me as well. A $700.00 Leupold 6X20X40 (except the EFR) would get eaten alive by the "SPROING" fore and aft vibration of that RWS Springer but the $145.00ish? Trophy handles it fine at what I consider reasonable air rifle prices.
Through and through'd this gopher at around 50 yards with a .22 caliber 14.8 grain Beeman Field Target Special. For that use I consider it a lot of optics for the money.
