Default 222 Remington Brass Opinions Needed

Hi,
Bought a 17/222 Remington Contender barrel. So I am looking for opinions on which brass will reform best. I have formed many 17 AH from 22 hornet and only used Winchester and Remington. I have been looking at 222 Rem brass and both winchester and remington are very scarce (probably can find if I take the time). I can buy Lapua and Nosler, both are in stock now. My question is simple. Which brand do you like best and why? If you don't like a particular brand please tell why also.

Thank for all opinions
Doug

I use Winchester in my 20-222. It forms well no issues. I like it for my needs. I bought 500 for 30 per 100 and it will outlast me. My 2 cents.

The Lapua brass is superior in every aspect to any other brass I have used. Worth every penny in prep time saved & in longevity. Nosler, which is made by Norma, is second. The Rem, Win & Hornady brass I've used has been inconsistent with regard to tolerances & their quality control poor. It's not that the Rem, Win, etc brass won't work, it's just after using the Lapua & "seeing" the difference it's hard to go back to a lesser product.

+1 If one considers the life cycle cost, Lapua is not expensive. I typically get 20-25 firings with Lapua 222 brass with loads at max or slightly above max.

With the current position of Remington & Winchester your not going to have many choices.

Me I'd make it from once fired LC 223. I'm going to save all my 222 brass for my 222.

sort about that. what is the twist on your barrel? it needs to be 1/9 if shooting over 25 grain bullets.

I have some extra .222 Rem brass on hand -- don't have an exact count at this point. Mostly R-P, some W-W. This is "fired brass," and I don't know how many firings it's had. I have been using brass from this batch for my own rifle, and have yet to lose a case to neck issues or loose primer pockets. Bought a large batch from a friend who sold his rifle a couple of years ago. PM if interested.

I use Lapua 222 brass for my 17/222 and 20/222. Necked down some WW and Rem 222 when I first got the 20/222, but it wouldn't grip the projectile. My chamber has a .234 neck on it and I have a .230 bush, internal size on the WW brass was .206 when sized down, Rem was .208 and Lapua is .203. I didn't want to go down further in bush size, and no neck turning needed, so the Lapua got the guernsey.

I didn't try the WW or Rem in the 17/222 just used some more Lapua, though I have to turn the necks on them for it. I bought 600 pieces of Lapua at a very good price of 88.00 per hundred in Aussie dollars, which at the time was only around ten bucks more than Rem and WW.

My 20/222 brass has been fired 9 times, with no sign of any problems, so I am getting good value out of it.
