main spring for number 7 rolling block
Help needed! The hammer spring on my number 7 rolling block broke on Wednesday night. Do any of the gunsmiths here fabricated these type of flat springs? I have tried all of the rolling block sites and they are not available.
I have both pieces of the existing spring. Rider |

Might hit up homegunsmithing.com. There used to be a guy by the name of AlphaWolf45 that did a lot of fabrication for these old guns. It's been years since I've hit up that site, but back then, he was THE guy to ping on stuff like this...

Lynn:
Bring it by, I have about 80 feet of flat spring. Might be able to make one. I've done such things before with it.

You know i"m here looking for something to do most of the time.
Hey, that fence IS separate from the locking end. Need 3' of 1 1/2"x 3" heavy tubing now. Don't think i have that in stock. This would be easier to use than flats.

Was talking to a friend over here who has couple rolling block pistols and he says to try S&S Firearms in New York. Regards,Ken.

Kenbro,
I will give them a try. The main spring is about the only part on the number 7 that is not interchangeable with the 1871 army pistol. There is always a chance that there is an original floating around. I searched for 5 years for the rear aperture sight before I found on E-bay of all places. Rider |

Is one plain at the end and the other has a lug, or hook ,or something like that?
Ken.

Kenbro,
The one end is plain and has a through hole to attach it to the lower tang. the upper end has a "fork" that the hammer toggle pivots in. Similar to the main spring of the number 2 but different geometry. |
