yes, excellent questions,,,,
,,,,,and I've even considered my own .250 SAI to be minimal for deer when I'm used to using much larger capacity and bored rounds I've taken two smallish whitetail does with the .458 Win Mag in a Ruger 77 Tropical~!. Use other VERY favorite rounds, a 45/70 and the .358 Win on a few, too.
I must change hats in my thinking process or do something different in my cranial cavity because I too have considered building a .25 TCU on a CZ 527 base rifle. One reason is that I like .25 caliber. I'm not sure exactly why,,,,it all started out with my first ever centerfire rifle, a .25-06 Rem that I considered "my .270 Jack O'Conner" rifle {{????}}. The .25 bore is unique because it's an odd ball but an AMERICAN origional caliber, not an offshoot of some metric 'given to us by Europe' round. Building a 25 TCU would also give me a LIGHT rifle of sufficient bore and be the very nice CZ 527 that I consider one of the best of all 'downsized' Mauser bolt rifles. Other than that I'm just shrugging my shoulders in a 'not sure why' answer. . . Hey,,don't be askin' me why I DO things,,,I'm not sure MYSELF~!... Kidding,,,,very good points in what you said. I built a 25-204 a few years back and it has proved to be a very handy rig, powerful enough for deer and handles 85gr plain base cast bullet nicely.

Very nice, are you using The RCBS 85 grain "cowboy" mould?
I've been thinking about buying that to try in my Roberts. |

I use Meister bulk casts that are for the 25-20 about $35/500. I still have a good stock of Barnes 75gr "X" bullets that work great on coyotes and 100gr Partitions for deer.
I've also built a 22-204 and a 6mm-204. The 22-204 is running 40gr NBT's at 3900fps and is a great pelt gun. The 6mm I completed this summer and have worked up some accurate loads but haven't run them over the chrony yet. AWS |

25-221 Fireball
Gave any thought to the 25-45 Sharps ? Very easy to form, load, dies and cases easy to come by. Bill K

Resurrected.
Sure wish Ken had stuck around, never mind I see PTG is now listing a 25-221 has anyone built one using this reamer, unfortunately they wont send the reamer print overseas Still prefer the 25cal over 6mm just the way it is Johno |

resurrected, I still had dark hair when this thread was first posted, lol. don't know about the 25-221 but the 25 copperhead has been around for years, john Wooten necked the 222 rem necked up to 25 caliber . he used it for whitetail deer. I would imagine the 25-221 would be right on it's tail.
my concern would be not trying to stretch the distance as the bullet might fall below the designed expansion velocity. that said I would love to have a 25-221 to thump called in coyotes with, would be a hoot. have a friend that made a 25-223 and it matches the old 250-3000 in velocity and performance.
