Bought some 17WSM at Cabelas....
Don’t even have a rifle or Contender barrel for it yet,but that has never stopped me before. They had a sale going on and I had points burning a hole in my pocket soooo,I bought all the Winchester 20grain stuff that they had.Really like ScreaminWeasils Ruger,so I may step up.I also contacted CZ and they politely told me they have no plans for the 17WSM chambering.
I hope the 17WSM doesn’t go the way of the 5mm,so in my mind I am doing my part to spur it on Matt

A first time(16 year old) prairie dog shooter with me had a Savage in 17wsm. He was hitting regularly out to 200 yards, some were the gopher sized pd. I have thought about one after seeing the performance.

I have two of the Ruger 77/17 rifles in 17WSM and both shoot extremely well. One is the original 24" barrel stainless and walnut rifle and the other is a new 18.5" stainless and green laminated stock rifle. I just bought the shorter rifle and I have not shot it at anything but a paper target yet, but I was impressed with its accuracy. It and the 24" rifle are twins in the accuracy department.........
The 17WSM cartridge can grow on you. I shoot all of the other rim fire cartridges including a Schroeder conversion 5MM, but this RF cartridge is special, at least in my mind it is. JMO - BCB

I have a HB SS Bmag with laminated thumbhole stock that shoots like a laser. Only paid $400 for it after rebate. Like the round enough that I bought a Franklin Armory F17L right before I moved a few months ago, but have not had time to shoot it. Thought a semi auto would be a lot of fun when I hope to go on my first PD hunt. I enjoy reloading some, but the older I get, the more I like rounds I don't have to reload for.

Matt, just think back to when we went for a walk about and you shot my 17 CCM, they are a close comparison. Or did you? Dang, just hit me as I’m typing that maybe it was something else now?
I recently sold one of my two 17WSMs and wishing I’d of at least shot it first And should it ever go the way of the 5mm then just think about how much the value of your firearm will increase I’m stocked well with 15.5s, 20s and 25s.

Matt,
I think you'll be pleased "when" you finally get a .17 WSM. If you are thinking of a Ruger and want nice wood. Be sure to shop around, ordering "blind" may result in something along the lines of beechwood. It's amazing how much the quality of walnut varies from Ruger. I'm tempted to get the laminate 18.5" heavy barrel version(as Hal has done), to go along with my 24" Walnut model. I sold my .17 Hornet, .17 HMR (for sale), and have no regrets replacing those rimfires with the .17 WSM. My .17 Remington takes care of my centerfire .17 needs. My many 22 caliber hornets trumped my .17 hornet (for accuracy, reload ability, and just the fact that they are chambered in some of my favorite rifles). We all like, what we like....................but, I haven't heard too many people complaining about the performance of the .17 WSM as a round. Now, all you have to do is find a nice rifle chambered in it. Last edited by Screaminweasil; 08-09-2018 at 07:26 PM. |

Thanks guys.....
I appreciate the encouragement and had a good feeling I did the right thing.
I have looked at some of the Rugers on Gunbroker and thought, dang they look like they used beechwood from their source for 10/22s.I was hopeful CZ would join the party, but no.If Cooper ever gets on board,I’d be awful happy.I may get a MGM barrel 23”or 24” for my G2 to get started with shooting the round.Gary any chance you could post a picture of the CCM next to a WSM for us?I always thought the WSM would be like having a CCM that wasn’t reloadable. Matt
