.222 powder
Is there any powder which works better in the .222 than IMR 4198? I'm not trying make it into a .223. Just looking for accuracy.

222 powder
Have not played with a 222 Rem for a few years. But when I did I used H4895 and had very good accuracy and decent FPS. Don't recall the exact load, but charts will give you start load then work up in your rifle. Bill K

depends on which bullet you pick. I was getting 3750 with 40 gr vmaxes , scared me just a little bit but couldn't feel any difference in seating new primers as compared to starting load. I was using n130 powder 7.5 rp primers.
don't know enough about the gun yet i.e does it need bedding and the such for top accuracy.

,222 Accuracy
There is so much load data available for the .222, I think it's harder to find a load that won't shoot than it is to find one that will. About the only thing I tend to consider when choosing something to try is: Lighter bullets, faster powders, heavier bullets, slower powders. This is not an absolute by any means, but more often than not, it works for me. All in all, IMR 4198 is an excellent "go to" powder when used with the right bullets.

RL7 may or may not be. It is in my CZ 222 Varmint with the bullets I tried anyhow directly compared to IMR 4198. |

In the pre-6ppc benchrest days when the 222 ruled the range, 21.1 gr of RL-7 and a 52 gr. match bullet was one of the common loads. Needless to say, it's not a mild load. I'd also give AA2200 a try as it's delivering some outstanding accuracy in several of my rifles.

Like dungheap said it is
Probably harder to find a load that won’t shoot well in the.222 than one that will.
I have always liked H-322,N-133,and Benchmark in no particular order they all do well in this burn rate.It really depends on what bullet you want to use.I remember back in the day trying the old Nosler 45 grain Hornet bullet with H-322 and thinking this little stubby guy sure is not the sleekest most pretty bullet, but man did it shoot well!I never would have thunk it from its looks. Not sure they make it anymore,it sure got expensive from what I remember.Anyway you slice it the .222 is a heck of a cartridge, sure to give you a lot of enjoyable shooting. 222 powder
I acquired an old Remington 600 back a while ago and loaded it with several powders most of which have been mentioned above.
But mine really responded with Hodgdon H-322. I can't say it did not like any powder but it really liked H-322, so give that a try. I shot mainly lighter weight bullets and the Berger 30 grain bullet did well. It would shoot .2xx of an inch for 3 rounds often enough so you knew it wasn't an accident. Wonderful old cartridge, enjoy it. John |
