Default 17 Hornet ??

I picked up a 17 hornet contender barrel a while back in a trade. But reading all the posts it sounds like there are different specs on the 17H depending on who made the reamer? I need to find a set of dies or I need to get rid of the barrel. I don't have any way to cast the chamber right now(I need to get some cerrosafe). I was wondering if any of you knew where to get dies that would work with this barrel. It is a TC contender barrel made by "Coyote Guns & Accessories LLC" . According to the numbers on the lug it is a 1:9 twist, barrel #366(I don't know how many barrels he made or how many in this caliber?) If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Dennis

Default 17ah

If you were to take into consideration reamer sales, die sales, and a poll right here most of us would have the 17 Ackley Hornet with the 30degree shoulder. While there may be some differences in freebore or rim thickness specified by the buyer of the reamer or the manufacturer, ie MGM, Bullberry, fill in the blank. The other variants may be the Kimber 17Hornet and a 40* shoulder version. Chances are you have the 30* and dies are readily available, You could always take a fired case that will chamber in your rifle and fire a cream of wheat load in it, quick and easy way to see what you have.

If you use a none fireformed case just necked down to 17cal and annealed it put in 10gr of 4227 stuff the remaining space and neck with tissue and fire it.
it will form to your chamber.
Anyone in your area with a 17 Hornet will give you a unformed case if not PM me with your address and i will send you a couple from the UK

Here's the Coyote Arms website: http://coyotearms.net/

You should contact them about your barrel and they can tell you what the appropriate dies are.

I'll have to try the fireforming thing. If it is the 30* shoulder who would have the dies, and would they be a standard 17 ackley hornet die?

Ditto, coyote arms and coyote guns are different companies. I don't think coyote guns is in business anymore.

If it is Ackleys chamber, Redding, RCBS and CH4D all make/carry the dies. CH4D is the most reasonabley priced @ about $85.00.

I would wait for the specs to come out on the 17HH.
The loading dies for the 17HH will be a lot cheaper.
I have been loading the AH for seven years and so far have only used
shop made neck dies. Kenny

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll have to figure out my chamber(either by the fireforming trick or get the stuff to cast the chamber). Maybe by the time I get around to that the HH specs will be out. If the dies for that would work they would most likely be cheaper. But, I would bet that Hornady will have something a little different. May not be much different, but with my luck probably enough that it won't work.

Dennis,

If you have any FB bushing dies around, and the right size bushings, you could form up some of those pieces of brass too. If you are careful, you could even get some of the bullets seated using a 17FB seater...let the fun begin!
