Default I was held hostage by photobucket so I paid the $4.99 a month ransom. Checking it out

Not sure I believe anything these guys say but they tell me in the 2nd hundredth email they have sent me that for $4.99 a month I can actually access my pics and they will actually work as promised. If so I might pay that amount for convenience sake. I figure this is the deal I would have accepted in the first place without the resentment toward them I have had they offered it when they first tried to stick a gun in our ribs, if not I'm out $4.99.
Copied the first picture I came to in my library and if what they promised is true you will see a picture of my friend Larry with the Cape Buffalo he shot and the picture should have no photobucket ad's on it.

What do ya know, it worked. Now I'll go and see if past posted pictures show up right. I don't mind being charged a fair price if I know it going in but I'm not sure the way they were forced to this point will allow me to get over how I feel about the attempted extortion.

When they first pulled their attempt to get rich on other's efforts, I dump loaded all of my pictures in zip files to a folder on my desktop and I never signed on there again. "....... 'em & feed 'em fish heads" as the saying goes for how they went about the effort.

Since then I've used IMGUR for photo hosting and so far its still free......... If they suddenly need money, I'll do the same there and look for another option if they pull a "Photobucket". The biggest task was unlocking the zip files once they were downloaded, but that was easily done on my time. A couple of rainy days solved that issue long ago.

I took them up on a new contract 2 months ago special offer $1.99 per month.

Not saying this to tick you off, Doug, but I would ask them for a refund - because:

"My buddy IN Canada got a deal from you for less than 50% of what you are charging me - WT*&%$ is going on?."

That's the line I would use. Once I get my new monthly sheet from my charge company, I'll see if they are charging me CDN or US funds.

That is a great picture and a really nice Cape Buffalo.

Lordy Darryl, I sprayed diet Coke out of my mouth all over my computer as I scrolled into your photo of the worlds worst hunting dog. I'm sure glad it wasn't real coke with all the sticky corn syrup!

I'd download all my pics off there if that's the only place you have them stored, and tell Photobucket to pound sand. There's plenty of free sites out there. I've been using www.postimages.org. You don't even need an account just to upload a pic, but you can get a free account for storage.

Default How about some other options?

Since data speeds are pretty zippy these dsys, what really is the advantage of web based storage over keeping a couple of high capacity hard drives with a couple of copies of your photos on them? I think I had been photobucked once upon a time, but after I picked up MS Office and it offered s whole terabyte of storage for anything at no additional cost, well, I kind of lost interest in getting used by photobucket.

By the way, it goes without saying, ...but that is one nice buffalo.

+1 .....I totally agree. Get 'em all back while you can!

I use http://tinypic.com for free w/o account. I use them for hosting photos not saving photos.

I got the same email, it said I'm exceeding the free storage limits which are 2.5GB of 250 photos and claims I've got 1047 images in my account.

This is a lot less than the 2.5GB limit because I don't upload full size photos.

When they pulled the stunt of trying to extort money from me I downloaded a copy of all my photos, so I could keep track of what I had uploaded.
I have got the originals stored on my computer, with the cost of storage these days that is no problem.

I have no intention of paying photobucket anything because even though I might have paid $5 per month originally with the way they tried to extort money from me I would never put myself in that position with them ever again...…………..just my $0.02c worth …...Kiwi

I believe he used a .17 Ackley Hornet or maybe it was a 416 Mag . Maybe he'll see this and jump in cause to be honest my memory has gone to heck since my brain blew up and though I remember he told me all the details I sure don't remember what they were, it'll make it fun when he tells me again. The other morning I woke up and there was this beautiful silver haired lady laying there beside me, she woke up and smiled at me so I says "You're a nice looking gal, what's your name? Only been a couple a weeks and the shiner's almost gone now.

Daryl, you mean you got the same offer only it was $1.99 a month? That makes me feel about like the worst hunting dog in the world .

As to the general feeling of dislike about photobucket, have no doubt I share it . I've hooked up to IMGR as well and I have all the photos I've taken on my computer and backed up on high capacity external hard drives as well. I'm not into this "cloud" gig! That said, for under 5 bucks I can see what photos I posted where and edit them with photos from IMGR etc as well. Gives me some time to do what I wish, I got beau-coups pictures!
The other reason I put this info up here is because A few guys as I remember...vaguely... were unable to get their photos back at all and photobucket was holding them ransom. Not sure how long I'll have this service cause I too resent giving these jerks 10 cents but we'll see. I oughta send photobucket the link to this site, sure they'd love it what with all the employee's sitting there bored with nuthin to do .
