I built a 300BO on a CZ 527 with 18" barrel for hunting hogs. Its compact and very manageable with suppressor. If I expect heavy/fast shooting or really sloppy conditions then out comes the AR15 (ugly hammer).

If you're committed to going short then stick to 18" for a little extra velocity and it just looks/feels better on a bolt gun. You can always shorten it down to 16" at a later point, but you can never make it longer once cut.

Just picked mine up from the smith. Holy crap. Got a load and have been smoking pdogs and rock chucks the first week. My new favorite varmit gun. 20 inch suppressed.

Default Barrel life

No worries on barrel life, my Cooper 38 is over 4000 rounds now and is just starting to show heat checking in the throat. Still shoots under a half inch at 100 yds too.

this is the one DF06 let get away, sounds similar to the one you are looking at. sako's my favorite action. just think if Remington would shrink the 700 action down to sako size how popular they would be.
