Default 22 Hornet

Max load of H110 and the Hornady 35gr. V-max the other load I like is 10.5gr of H110 and 45gr. Sierra SP, I can shoot and shoot that load for ever and brass lasts just about for ever! Max load of H110 and 35gr. V-max alittle ruff on the brass. but its smoking fast in the little Hornet

My pet load is PRVI brass, (Winchester works too) with 12.6 of Lil'gun, Federal Small Pistol primer, and a 40 grain Vmax or Blitzking (whichever is cheaper). They do anywhere from 2,850 to 3,200 FPS, depending on the barrel length.

I shoot exactly the same load out of 6 different 22 Hornets (CZ 527, Ruger number 3, Ruger 77, Anschutz 54 action Mannlicher, Uberti low wall, and a Browning A bolt micro) and all will shoot them into .5 or less at 100 and at an inch or under at 200. Load is great on gophers out past 300 yards.

It is .5 grains under book max and if nothing else makes a good load to try.

Ive never tried Lil'gun when I first started loading for the Hornet it was 2400 then IMR4227 and H110 Ive been shooting H110 ever since, but I'll give lil'gun a try. I aslo like shooting the downs loads for the Hornet 4198 and SR4759 40gr. SP at 2000fps make a hell of a small game round.

My hornets seem to like a near max load of W296 with WSR and Win brass with 40 VMAX, 40 or 45gr Hornet-specific bullets from either Hornady or Sierra. The 30 and 35 gr bullets are impressive on a calm day, but any wind really affect them, much more than 40's. fat cat, if you like the 'down' loads, around 12gr of AA2200 (if you have some) with 45 or 50gr SP, like a Siera Blitz, will give you around 2100fps and really good accuracy.

AA2200 was a data powder from several years ago. You might be able to pick some up from another shooter, but I doubt it would still be in a store. I mentioned it in case you had some around. It is in between AA1680 and AA2015 in speed, and in a 221FB is very close to RL-7 in burn speed.

I've used both RP and WW brass(now) in the CZ .22 Hornets I've owned. The WW brass, due to it's reduced capacity, gets 13.0gr. Lil'Gun with all bullet weights, including 50gr. just as noted in Hodgdons manual, except my velocities are way over what they quote.

I use pistol primers and magnum pistol primers almost exclusively, with narry a pierced primer NOR expanded primer pocket in over 7,000 shots from the original 500 cases I bought. Never annealed & I size only 1/4" of the neck in a FL die. They need no outside lubing in my Hornady FL dies. I do lube 1 in 5 inside the neck.

RP brass received 14.0 and 14.4gr. with 40gr., 13.8gr. with 45gr. Hornady and 13.0gr. with 50gr. Hornady SP's.
45gr. Hornady's, loaded with 13.8gr. .223" or .224", are the ones that generally shot 3/8" and smaller for 3 shot groups ran 3,200fps average.
40gr. using 14.0 to 14.4gr. Lill'Gun, ran 3,340fps for Vmax and Varminators, and 3,357fps with Nosler BT's. The most accurate were the too-hard jacketed Sierra 40gr.HP's and the 40gr. Varminators which are no longer made- damn. 40gr. bullets shot .057 (a best) to .250" normally, 3 shot groups.
My best long range shooting was 345 yards on a juvenile Columbia Ground Squirrel the first year, and the second year, 454yards on a big 'buck' Columbia Ground Squirrel. Both shots witnessed.

The 50gr. ran 3,120fps and shot in the 1/2" to 3/4" range.

My rifles both like the bullets to be crimped by a Lee collet crimp die - SD's in the high teens.

My first CZ Lux Hornet (light barrel), after 6,500 rounds, would make 3 shot groups from .057" to .330", depending on the bullets.

My new one, actually an older 'Lux" rifle, is not quite as accuracy, but does still run 1/4" to 3/8" with a variety of bullets from 40gr. to 50 gr. It particularly likes 45gr. Sierra RN's at 100 to 150 meters, and 40gr. Varminators and 40gr. Vmax for longer range shooting, both in RP brass. This brass seems a bit more accurate than the WW brass, although the WW should be better due to it's thicker necks - such is not the case. The WW brass seems happy with 1/2" groups.

My 'new' gun is 50fps slower than my first one.
