Default What will a 1:10 twist 17 rem shoot

I want a 17 centerfire but here in Denmark they are made of Unoptanium.
I have managed to find a new Tikka m595 in 17 Remington but found out the crazy finns drank antifreeze and made it 1:10".

I have played with Don Millers spread sheet and come to the conclusion that it will shoot airgun pellets and next to nothing else.

Nosler 20gr HP Varmageddon bullets are ok Hornady 20gr HP soso and then theory says no.

So what is reality saying?
Those who have a 1:10" 17 Rem chabered rifle have good experiense with what???

20-25 grain centerfire projectiles are the ticket, had good luck with the hornady 25 grain bullets in my 10twisted rifles

You will have no problems with Hornady or Berger 25gr HP bullets, however the v-max 25gr may not stabilize.

The "new" Miller Formula takes in to account for the plastic tipped bullets. I never ran the 25 grain V-Max on it but it did stabilize in my 10tw .17 Fireball at basically sea level. As was stated some have had trouble with it in a 10tw so the bottom line is you're gonna have to give it a shot()!

My goto bullet in my 10 twist 17 FB is the 25gr V-Max. I can't see why a 17Rem won't shoot it.

"Some" 10 twist .17's will shoot 25gr. Vmax, but seems most won't (unless they are closer to 9" or maybe 9 1/2" twist) - but about all 10" twists will shoot the 20gr. Hp's, 20gr. Vmax and 25gr. HP's - usually, if they are decent barrels.

I have a ten twist that I shoot 25 gr woodchuck den bullets out of and it hammers coyote at 200 all day long. Todd Kindler also says his 29 gr woodchuck den will stabilize in a 10 twist. Personally the 25's shoot so good I don't even shoot anything else.

It will likely work with anything under 30gr, stick with flat base bullets and even some 27's or 30's will be OK if you launch them fast enough. Larry
