I am of the belief that winchester does their own 17hmr

Hornady does all the 17 bullets, I think

Educated guesses , I can be wrong

Default Winchester Advertised...

Winchester did advertise that they were going to produce their own .17 HMR ammo. Maybe they finally did and you are seeing the difference. They were suppose to be doing their own brass, priming and powder. The bullet appeared to be the same silver tipped Vmax as before...

I find the WW brand with the 17gr. silver tipped Vmax, has tighter headspace than ANY of the others.

This is evident only in my Martini. The Marlin and Savage do not 'feel' different when chambering any of the makes of ammo. I cut the Martini's chamber to have "0" (just touching) headspace on Hornady & Federal brand ammo when I barreled it up, years ago.

The current WW Silvertip 17gr. Vmax ammo I'm buying at Walmart has tighter headspace - this is VERY real and can be easily felt with every round, barring the odd round that does chamber more easily. They scrub hard when chambering, however perhaps due to this hard chambering, do not shoot as well as the Hornady ammo, which shoots identically to Federal in this rifle. I do not know if the rim is heavier, or shoulder slightly more foreward. I also note many of them split the case while firing in this rifle, while no other brand does this.
