Yes, Adam..... They're very visible on the two cases on the right and also on a few of the cases in the cartridge box.
That said........Without a false shoulder to hold the entire length of the cartridge in place in the rifle chamber there is little to keep the case from stretching in the web area. Especially on a thin case like the Hornet. Granted the Hornet head spaces on the rim, but when fire forming to a new cartridge design, any case has the potential to stretch excessively lengthwise if not supported fully lengthwise by the new chamber. The OP may get by just fine with his idea. I'm sticking with the false shoulder approach. But I'm only me........... -BCB

Brass longevity will be the final test on the O rings. I'm on my 6th firing using RP Hornet brass in my .17AH, after 14 as .22 Hornet with 40fr. making 3,340fps.
That's 20 loading so far and none lost to case web separations or expanded primer pockets.

I do believe most of us do it this way as the case cannot stretch above the web and the shoulder simply blows out to fit the chamber as the case is heald rigidly between the chamber's shoulder and the bolt face.

O Rings
Fireformed approximately 7000 Cases w/o the O ring, never had a problem with the headddspace.

Doug, I hope that you were not posting the pics of your 17m2 to impress us with your shooting ability. As I see it, you missed that dime with every shot! |
