Actually wrote about the 1st coyote I ever called in. It was on the southwest corner of the Air Force Academy back in winter of '78. The article was titled, "Predator vs. Predator" and it was published in Varmint Masters magazine years ago. One of my best articles, and they destroyed it by changing the last sentence...but still got paid for it, although I'd still give the $ back today if they would have left it as submitted.

I will have to dig out those mags Steve....
I’d really love to see if I have that issue,if I remember they went defunct just after I got on board.
I shot my first coyote in Larkspur Colorado with a 22 Hornet,I called her in with a Song Dog back in ‘95.She came out from behind a bunch of scrub oak about a 100 yards away and stood pretty as a picture wondering what the hell was making that racket. Matt

My first was back in the early 80's. I was blowing on a handcall, think it was a Lohman 3 pack of enclosed reed handcalls that I started with. Anyways, I would blow for a bit then would look through my bino for the elusive coyote that was supposed to come. Well, there I was looking though my bino when a coyote's head darn near filled my view. By the time I got my rifle up he was well on his way out of there. I never touched a hair on that coyote. I have since broken myself from using the bino while I'm calling. I save them for when I am done making noise.

first coyote
I was 15 years when I called in my first coyote in Mid August while sitting in a burnt out bush wind-row... I was armed with a 303British military rifle - open sights.
I was using that hard plastic green/black OLT predator call. The coyote popped up within 30 feet in front of me ...stopped...looked at me...and popped back into the tall grass. My rifle never moved and I was left in shock,,,,but later amazed at the thoughts of future calling. I called in the this male coyote just last week which weighed an unusual 46-1/2 lbs. The CZ Kevlar Varmint 17REM with 25 Bergers took only one shot at 70 yards to ground him. |

Your first coyote you called.
I believe AlbertaAl that the olt's call was the second one I bought way back when. Still unable to post a photo on the treads. But if you check out my album/photos in the community, does that call look familiar ? And I still use it with others in my mouth call collection. Bill K

Wow!! Albertaal that thing is a beast!!! I have shot a lot of yotes in my life but that thing is about 4 pounds bigger than the biggest I have shot. Here’s a link to a few pics of a bunch that me and a few friends skinned one winter and nothing weighed that much.
