Looking for 17 Rem info ......
Has anyone tried N133 , N135 , or N540 in the 17 Rem with 25 grain bullets ? My internet skills are not very good and my search attempts havent got many results ,
I have these powders on hand and would like to try them , Thank you in advance for any replies or suggestions ! |

Check a few reloading manuals or even the Hornady Data site. They might give you some data.

According to the Gordon's software, the following loads are 55kpsi:
21.5 N133 3996 fps 23.0 N135 4061 fps 24.2 N540 4048 fps I would start well below these charge weights as simulation software are only so good, and the 17 Remington can be touchy at maximum pressures. |

I have looked in a few manuals and those powders aren't mentioned in the manuals that I have .

25’s and a full case H414/760 worked for me

My 17 Rem likes H414/W760 also. Have tried W748, but W760 works better. I never tried the VV powders in it because they were always more expensive, even 10 years ago.

I use IMR4198 w/25 grain bullets in 17 Remington. It's doesn't answer what the OP was asking for, but if they have any on hand it has been very good for me.

My old VV download manual from a few years ago did not have any load data. However, their powder burn rate chart did show N540 comparable to H414 and N133 comparable to H335. N135 was between H4895 and Varget.

My comment was just meant as a reference. OP will have to check burn speed. I found powders react a lot differently on 17 and 20 bore sizes. The 17 Remington and others are all but wildcats when it comes to a lot of “new” powders, very little data, most is pretty dated as well.
Seems I do recall on some reference of 540 some where, maybe Kindler’s book? I have found most bullet or powder companies more hesitant to recommend a recipe (unpublished) than they were 20 years ago. |
