Need a load over 3750 for 17 cal 25 gr Hornady hollow point
I am looking for a load using the 25 gr Hornady hollow point for a 17 fire Ball in a Remington case that will get more than 3750 fps..... I would like some accuracy if possible. Will be shooting out of a 1:9 Lilja barrel on a Ruger #1
Thanks in advance

Just a thought, but why FPS first and accuracy second ? Remember a slow accurate bullet/hit will trump a fast/in-accurate one. Bill K

I guess my writing was not working with my brain. My intended meaning was that I wanted accuracy at a higher FPS load...... My bad...... Thanks for mentioning that. So, to state the request correctly; I am looking for an accurate load for the 17 cal, 25 gr. Hornady HP that is in excess of 3750 fps. Thanks again...... old guy here.......

If you access the Hodgdon Load Data Center, they list some maximum loads in that velocity range. Beyond that, use the forum search feature to check out info on the .17FB. There was quite a bit of information posted back when Big Green was producing rifles in that caliber. You also might access the Ramshot site for still more info.
I found the sweet spots for the .17FB to be very small -- often powder charge variations over .2 grain would go from sweet to not so sweet in a hurry. Jus' sayin'. |

Hi there,
These were shot through a 26in Rem 700. I have a tendency to do things a bit different. Disclaimer, -these were ok my rifle-, may be different in yours, start low and work up. XBR-8208 25gr HP, Rem 7 1/2. Rem case. 1.770 col Started at 18.4 grs- 3630fps, went to 19.0 grs- 3832fps. AR-Comp. 25gr V-Max, CCI 450. Rem case, 1.935 col Started at 18.2 grs- 3660fps, went up to 19.2grs at 3860fps. Oehler 35P, 10feet from muzzle. Hope this helps. All the best, Michael. |

Thanks a ton Michael......All loads will be "worked up" of course. Shooting in an accurized #1..... should hold. Thanks again. Bruce A. Hering Program Coordinator/Lead Instructor (retired) Shotgun Team Coach Southeastern Illinois College SCTP Collegiate Coaches Chairman NSCA Level III

He has a furball, I don't think 24 gr of varget will fit.
