Default .17-204

I'm jumping into wildcat territory, can anyone give me a little guidance with load data? I will be shooting 30 grain bullets and probably Remington 7 1/2's. I have some Big Game, H414, Varget, Benchmark, 8208, and a few others. Starting with Nosler brass, but also have some new Remington .204 brass. I've never loaded without published data, but know to start low and work up slowly. I have searched and found useful data, but asking you guys with .17-204 experience to chime in. Thanks.

I'd go with a single base powder and another primer. 8208 is single base as are most ball powders. Page 1 of this link lists the IMR single base powders.

A load I found on Ammoguide lists 27.6 of Big Game with 32gr. bullets. Velocity, 3980

I like the 7.5 Remington primers, they work great. H322 is good powder as well. I use 22.3 of H322 @ 3850. This is a 17 R.E.M. I can get it faster, but this is a very good load. I have found I use a lot less powder with H322 and it's clean.

I would find this info SUSPECT.

What 17 caliber bullets weigh 32gr.

H322 is too fast to get top velocity.

Slower powder for high velocity no matter barrel length. Kenny

H4895 start around 23gr with 30gr bullet.

Default 17/204

Sorry, can't help with loads for 30 gr bullets as I've never tried them. My 17/204 really likes H380 with the 25 gr Hornady HP. Start with 17 Rem loads and work up. Vic

I get really fast speeds with H322, my barrel is 24" Lilja barrel. I worked up to 24 gr. And was pushing over 4300, I backed it down and found my sweet spot @ 22.3 at 3850. H322 does awesome in my 17Rem. This is with Todd Kindlers 27gr bullet.

Good pickup on the 32s. I had 20 caliber on the brain. The other loads listed were for 30s (I assume Kindler golds) and 25 Hornady. Powder listed for all was Ramshot Big Game. The 25 Hornady load was 28.8 gr. As with any internet listed load, proceed with caution.

Off the top of my head I can't remember my starting loads or where I stopped adding powder(if interested I can look up that info.), but I tried both Big Game and Varget and ended up finding better accuracy and better speed with varget in my rifle. And even though I chopped my barrel to 20.5" because I run suppressed and didn't want it any longer, I still pushed slightly over 4000 fps. The load I settled on is closer to 3900 fps, using the old discontinued berger 30 grainers. I do use Rem. 7 1/2 primers.

I would be interested in that load info and also what suppressor you have as I am planning on getting one. Thanks.
