Default 20-223AI work-up help

Have a Cooper 21 with X-Caliber 1-9 tw. 3 groove 26" barrel chambered with .228 neck. ---- looking for experiences from anyone loading 55 gr. Bergers' with a similar 1-9 configuration (powder choices, vel., group size etc.).

Have formed brass on hand from similar 1-11 tw. barrel chambered with same reamer: LC-13, IMI, Lapua, Nosler, Norma

Any input much appreciated ---- Tooter

Isn't this just a 20 Tac with a 40* shoulder? Should not be much difference. After you fire form your brass measure the case capacity, pick a bullet (55 Berger) and bullet will determine powder and I can give you some suggestions from there. Case capacity is critical.

Default 20-223 AI work-up

Can not say on the 55 grain. But my 20-223AI really likes either H or IMR 4198, with up to 50 grain bullets. Very accurate and FPS is above other powders I tried.
A friend just tried H 4198 in his and the groups he showed me were touching or just barely doing so, 1/2 in or smaller. So you might give it a try, along with some other powders that Kindler shows in the 20 Tac and similar cartridges in his book "Terrific Twentys". Bill K

Default 20-223 AI work-up

Got input from another site forum member with a similar rifle setup. He gets 3640 fps with Berger 55s over RL 17.

This matches my other 20 Blitz (20 PPC-AI) rifle using H414! ---- got 2 lbs. of RL17 yesterday so will be working up loads for both rifles.

Thanks all ---- Tooter
