Considering that is still much slower than Lil'Gun and that LG shoots really well accuracy wise is the reason I haven't bothered to try it in the 221. I am getting 3550 FPS with .2 to .3 groups out of a stock Remington 221 VLS. It will literally put three rounds in one hole or a clover leaf at 200 yards. So far nothing new out is as fast and I don't see any point in chasing tighter groups than that for varmint hunting.

That would stand too reason.. As long as they are that good and you are happy. no need to change. Bill K

Not unlike others I've tried many powders with my favorite bullet - 40 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. Reloader #7 wins in the accuracy department.

My first ever 221FB and I bought CFE BLK & RL7 to start with. I would have really liked to have bought Li'l Gun instead of CFE BLK but I read a lot and it seems like a lot of people/guns have pressure problems with Li'l Gun powder.
I wonder why that is? Some shoot a charge at less than book max & have great results and others shoot the same load or less & have pressure issues. Have you ever had pressure problems with it? Maybe if these 2 powders won't shoot like I want, I'll buy a lb. of Li'l Gun & give it a whirl. Jim D |

I shoot Lil'Gun in a couple of dozen 22 Hornets WW brass 12.6 grains, Small pistol primer and a 40 grain Vmax or Blitzking 2900 -3,100 fps depending on gun, 17 HH, 218 Bee and 221 FB. I have fired many thousands of rounds. Most of my loads are thrown with a Lyman or Dillon powder thrower. I load 22 H on a 550 progressive because I use so many. I also load the 221 on it. I DO NOT load them ragged edge hot but never have had to to get good accuracy and speed.
Never had a pressure problem with it yet, though I do hear of all kinds of people that do. I have never had anyone I helped learn to load with Lil'Gun ever have a problem with it, so I have no idea why there are so many people that do. |

My guess would be fill ratio is not optimum with LG and this case.

Is it too quick burning for the .20 VarTarg, with lighter bullets?

Lil Gun has had some lot to lot variance that shows up more with small cases running 110% of book loads. I have NOT seen this, but I almost never go over book load.

I saw this same issue with a 7RM years ago. Some rifles would shoot a known good load with a fill ratio in the 85% range very well and some rifles the load was very erratic. My rifle at first did not like the load and I wondered what the differences could be so I experimented with different primers and found this to be the key.
I am not sure if this is the same issue but by reading the results that Dean2 is getting I think he has the primer / powder issue figured out with LG. |

If I had a Vartarg I would have definitely tried Lil'Gun in it. |
