New .17 Remington purchase. I'm happy!
Hey guys,
I just bought my 1st .17 Remington today & I'm really happy with the purchase. I've never seen one like it & I spent several hours on google & never found out anything about it. It's being shipped from Iowa. The person I bought it from knew nothing about it except that it was several years old, brand new in the box, & it didn't have a mark on it, 100% perfect new. It's a Remington 700 VS .17 Remington with a 26" stainless heavy barrel and it's in a HS Precision stock like the one's on the VSSF or Sendero. The end label of the box says: Product 29719-Remington VS-.17 Remington centerfire-Stainless-Synthetic stock-26" barrel. Anybody seen one of these? Thanks, Jim D |

RareBear,
Yep, looks like yours. Do you know any history on it, year made, quantity made, etc. I couldn't find anything about them. How's yours shoot? Thanks, Jim D |

I own two of them, re-barreled one of them to a to a 6x45mm that shoots amazingly well with 80grn bullets. The other 700-VS 17 REM will have a scope on it soon and I will see what it will do.
I purchased a couple of new 700-VS 17 REM 26211 with the blued barrels many years ago for $500 and couple of the new stainless 700-VS 17 REM 29719 for $550 years later. I don't know if they did sell well or what? The prices were always reasonable to me compared to the 700-VS in .223 0r 22-250 that seem to go for $700 to $800 used. |

Russel,
Buddy thank you so much for the email & picture. I see where it says have your dealer contact Zander's Sporting Goods to purchase so I guess they were a dealer exclusive. I wonder how many blue & stainless were made? Thanks again very much, Jim D |

stainless 700 VS 17rem
I had one of the stainless VS 17rems and it was a Zander dealer exclusive. I also bought mine cheap and used it as a donor for the action and stock. I did sell the barrel to a friend who was wanting a 17rem, he said it was a 1.5" shooter and he was fine with that. Probably not a ringing endorsement.

A little advice on the Remington barrel. It will probably take a little bit of shooting and polishing the bore to get it to shoot so don't be discouraged if at first it does not shoot. Every barrel is different so I would give it at least 200 rounds before determining the accuracy level. I have been lucky to have no dud Remington barrels but I am sure there are some out there.

17 rem
I have had a couple factory Rem 700s in 17 rem. Both were very accurate.

I have a stainless and a blued. The stainless is my go to calling rifle. The blued is unfired. I get real good accuracy with Remington ammo and the 25 grain hollow point. I received a case of ammo as a gift and haven't reloaded for it yet. They're good guns. One of these days I'm gonna put a Jewel trigger in mine. That's all it really needs.
