.20 Practical loads
New guy, first post. Awaiting my new 20 Practical in a couple of weeks(?). Any 20 P shooters care to share any starting loads for the Sierra 39 gr and the 40 gr VMax?? Or better yet powders that have worked out for the aforementioned bullets.

Right around 25g Benchmark .010"-.020" off the lands.
What powders do you have? Pretty much any 223 powder you've had success with will work. |

20 p
if you want smoking hot load, try 24 grs of rl10x behind 32vmax, that gave me 4200 fps. that was too hot for me ,,I went with 23.5 grs of aa2015 , if gives about 3800-3900 in CBI barrel 1-12 twist. my other 2 20p's shoot 24.5 g of aa2015 behing 40 vmax

VV133, start at 23 and work up. .010 off, .001 neck tension, R-P brass, CCI BR4s. My max load gives 3650. This is for a bolt gun, ARs I go lower by a half a grain. I've shot Nosler, Hornady, Berger, and Sierra but if you really want bugholes, try BIB 40s.

Great luck with Nosler 40gr BT, REM 7 1/2 primers, and either H4198 or V133. Shoots tiny holes, and blows P-Dogs to pieces.

Sounds to me like you're covered. All of those should work well. A book start load for a 223 with 50g bullet is a good safe place to start for 20 Prac 39-40g.

These have worked for me.
I shoot a Criterion barrel with a 1/11 twist and these loads shoot bug holes for me.
35 gr. Berger w/ 22 grains of H4198 39 SMK w/ 25.6 grains of H335 40gr. Nosler w/ 24.6 of RL-10X The 35 gr. Berger is my coyote round as it stays inside the animal and does amazing work. Personally I would keep my loads under 4000 fps to keep from burning up your chamber throat. You will love the caliber. Easy to load for and accurate with everything it shoots. |
