Flashole:
I see you've got $500 so this may not fit. I've got 3 or 4 of the 6.5-20x's Weavers Midway has on sale again now for $114. They're damned good, even better for the price. I had two Grand Slams and can't tell the difference other than $600 more. One was stolen. What I like about 'em, they'll focus down to 30 feet. Rider and I set at the dining table and focused on the brick fence post out front and could see the tiny specs clearly. IF you don't like it once you check one out, send it back. Just might change your mind a bit. Good luck with your decision.

Flashhole, I am not sure if this is the one spoken of but we have a few of these and they are excellent for the price.

Just a guess, but George may be referring to the Simmons 6.5-20x50mm that is on sale for $114.99.

I have a Zeiss Conquest mounted on the rifle now. 4.5-14x44mm with the Z-Plex reticle. I bought it several years ago right after they came out. Very nice scope. I want a 50mm bell and 20-24x magnification. The price of the Zeiss has gone way up since I bought mine.

What about a 50MM objective lens makes ya what one? A lot of different opinions of what guys like which is how it should be but personally I've never seen the need for a 50MM or wanted it's mandatory height requirements. Maybe I'm missing something I might really "need" .

I had been wondering why a 50mm scope myself.
To add to what's been said, a good 40-44 mm scope offers all of the light gathering capabilities the human eye can discern. A 50 mm scope offers nothing extra. -BCB
