The BLK test has been run.
Hello All,
Went out this am and tested a few 20 VT loads with CFE BLK. Assuming I can get the pictures to show, the load info is on the pix. Some things to add: 1) My load of 20.1 AA2200 was slower than I remember-averaged 3530 temp was around 55. 2) My load of AA2200 was as accurate as I remember, those are consecutive 5 shot groups. (the squares) 3) 19.0 BLK was warming up, but no real pressure signs, primers looked good, easy bolt lift. 4) the group with 19.0 has one way out to the right, that was the first shot. Me? Heck I don't know. 5) Seating depth is approx. .004 jump. Last measured about 1500 rounds ago. 6) Rifle is Cooper MTV, has approx. 2800 down the tube. Thanks for looking, Craig |

Update 20 VT CFE BLK
Ok I couldn't take it I had to go out and really concentrate, and also up the charge a touch more.
Well the concentrate part didn't work so well (flyer in otherwise good groups). Hopefully this will shed a little light on CFE BLK in my 20 VT. I ran three loads 18.8, 19.0, and 19.2. As I moved to the 19.2 mark, SD's started getting smaller and smaller. The ES on the 19.2 load was 30 FPS, while on the 18.8 load, (and to a greater extent yesterdays loads) ES was nearer to 80 FPS. As you guys can see, I averaged 3810 with the 19.2 load. Temp this am was again around 55 degrees. Little nervous about 90 degree heat what may happen. Although primers were still good and bolt lift was normal. In the cartridge box, the 18.8 load is near the left edge, then 19, then 19.2. comments are most assuredly welcome. Craig |

CFE BLK in the 20 VarTarg
Craig.. I have been coming up with just about the same FPS and some very good accuracy with the 18.6 & 18.8 loads in my SCC and the z-max bullet.
I have a average of 3660. And with the 24 NTX and 19.5 grain good accuracy, and running just over 3900 FPS. Did give 20.5 grains a go, but it is hotter, and I did pierce a primer, so will back off that load, as the temp was 55 this morning and for sure it would jump too much when temps go into higher range. would not be a safe load, I feel. But the others are doing so well, will stick with them. Do not believe the critters will know the difference when struck with them, and they being slower. Bill. ( I would post photo's, but just can not get them to go ) |

Thanks for sharing guys, do you know how dirty this powder runs?
I know at lower pressures some powders are really dirty. |

CFE BLK in the 20 VarTarg
For me, I see the first couple of wet patch's are pretty black, but after that the soak, wet patch, then dry one's all clean up good. Bill K

Now here is a silly question, how well does it meter?
Can I use a powder thrower or do i need to trickle it? Also from what I understand its a double base powder, they tend to burn hotter than single base? |

CFE BLK in the 20 VarTarg
I would think it would throw in a powder measure as well as 1680 and others in shape, like it. However with the small amount I am using in the 20 SCC and also in my 17 VHA, I measure it out, slow and one and a time, on a digital measure. Amazing how just a few flakes make a difference. And since it seems to really make and measure carefully ( as a tenth of a grain can jump pressure ) I do it that way. Safe, sane and no be sorry. Bill K
