Default Hodgdon or imr 4198

Would like to try 4198 with 20 gr. Vmax in my 17fireball wondering if there is a preference in brand
(If there is a choice do to availability)
Thank you
Chuck

The main difference "might" be in that the "H" version will be an ADI powder, while the N.A. IMR is not. The ADI powders, made in Australia, are referred to here as "Extreme", meaning they are less temperature sensitive.
With such a 'fast', easily ignited rifle powder, does that make a difference to you?
Loading data can change from H to IMR, but that depends on the ctg. it seems. The "H" version meters more accurately for me in my old powder measure.

As you probably know they are side by side on most burn rate charts. I wouldn't hesitate to use one over the other, depending what I could get. If I had a choice I would get the H4198. All the advice I have received about loading them is the IMR version is slightly hotter so you would need to back off a few tenths of a grain.

Seems like I read where Hodgdon's bought out IMR

Re: Israeli military.

Kinda of seems like they bought Win too.

Anyone interested needs to verify, as I don't retain
everything read.

just looked for kicks: Powder Valley is still out of all powders.

Accuracy wise I never saw a difference in the two. As you mention which ever you find may be the real answer.

I use the H4198 in my Fireball and have never had a reason to try anything else. I wouldn’t hesitate to use IMR if that was what I had.

try both let the rifle decide, I have and use both, H in most of my barrels delivers the most accurate loads at near max book loads, IMR in others ?? IMR defently gives higher velocity, In my experience IMR is notably dirtier burning in some cartridges, but when it shines it shines

Another vote for the H4198 for the temperature stability and the metering uniformity. Small cases and small bore diameters benefit from both of these.
