What to do
I ordered a Browning Micro Hornet last year(Nov) and it should be in the LGS very very soon.I have really been looking forward to this little rifle after reading the opinions of them on here.BUT now there has been a spanner thrown in the works I have been offered a Cooper Model 38 Classic in 22 Hornet. This is the rifle Johno imported down here a couple of years ago and in that time it has mostly sat in a safe.
So what should I do ? Buy the Browning and enjoy it or Buy the Cooper and sit around in my jocks cleaning it.

Buy them both. No matter what the romantics say, guns can and will make you happy. The more you have, the happier you'll be.

I guess I'll be the second to say it "might as well get both". Good luck, Dave

My personal preference is for the Cooper
The question is whether or not you must have a repeater. The Browning is a repeater but the Cooper is a single shot.
Another possibly less important issue is cartridge length. Since the Cooper has no magazine you can use whatever length works best. The Browning will limit cartridge length to the magazine length, and you may not be able to reach the lands and still fit a cartridge in the magazine. This doesn't matter to me because as long as I can find an accurate load I don't care if I can touch the lands, but some people become bedridden with grief over the issue. If you are in danger of becoming bedridden, you should ask the folks who own the Browning about maximum cartridge length. |

Buy the Cooper.

Buy the Cooper. Your son will thank you for it.

I would buy both, but if you can only afford one, I would buy te Browning to use as a walking varminter. The Cooper will not out shoot it and the browning is a repeater. It is also less than half the price.

After owning both a Cooper Model 38 and a Browning Micro Hunter 22 Hornet I have to agree with Dean2 - get the Browning and use the difference in cost to buy bullets, brass, powder, etc. The Browning is a great little rifle and has the added advantage of being a repeater.

G'day mate, I reckon you should get both, then shoot the Browning, just a little bit to make sure everything works, then you could re sell it to me at second hand prices of 33% off retail. Works for me anyway.

I'm a certified Cooper nut....
.... but, I have a Browning Microhunter in 22H.
I can't imagine the Cooper could shoot better than my Browning. Had a Micro Medallion in 22H years ago, and it was a real shooter, too. Alex |
