Lyman Case Trim Express
Has anyone used the Lyman Case Trim Express? Just wondering how it compares with the Wilson case trimmer for precision. Looks like it would be significantly faster to use.

I think I have what you're talking about. Gray and round shape where you hold the cases vertically? If so, very intuitive design and easy to use. I made one modification to mine before I used it. I appeared as if dirt woul enter the lower mechanism along the sides of the rotating heads so I placed a flat washer topped with an oring to seal that space. All in all very happy with mine and how well it preps cases quickly.

Actually, the one I was referring to is this one:
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/66...mmer-blemished I had not seen this one before and thought it looked interesting and fairly fast. I believe it indexes off the case shoulder. I was wondering about the precision compared to the Wilson trimmer which seems to be accurate but fairly slow.

Looks as though they took over the Gracey trimmer. I think they are out of business. Great approach to the problem.

Ok, I took bait and ordered one last week from Midways on sale for $111.95 with free shipping. The Accurate Shooter site has a review and video out on the unit- http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/...ew-with-video/.
I really don't think there is one single trimmer that can do everything well across the board for all rounds and applications. Have to find what works best for the individual need and budget. I read an article several years back written by a high-power shoooter who basically used his Gracey as case length guage. Rather than measure each round after X number of firings to see if it needed trimming and then trim, He set up his Gracey to the desired length and zip zip zip. It took less time to run all of them through on the Gracy and be done with it. We shall see how it works out. If it turns out to be a dog, there is alway e-bay. Will keep you posted. All the best. So I got out in the hot garage and decided to play with the trimmer.
I did read the instruction manual just to see if it had anything inside that might be beneficial. It did. Setup was simple but I didn't like the supplied power cord. It reminded me of a laptop cord from circa 2005. I followed the instructions to the letter and trimmed 10ea 308 Winchester cases that had been previously resized and deprimed. All of the cases came out within +- .0005 except one which came out at. 001 shorter. I checked the datum line on the cases and the short one was also .001 shorter along the line. Since the trimmer sets length off of the shoulder, I consider that okay. It takes a couple of seconds to trim, turn 180 and bump again. Like any brass cutting, you'll need to figure out your feed rate or it may chatter. Take the case with my left hand and hit the RCBS power deburring tools and each case took less than 15 seconds. Not bad. |
