Thoughts On A Break Action 22 Hornet?
Been thinking about this for awhile, we see Savage 219 & 220s down here along with CBC, H&R and rarely Thompson Contenders.
So if you fellas have any experience with whats out there I would like to hear your opinions, I would like something with decent accuracy & able to mount a scope Johno |

TC's, what ever you know about bolt guns and loading for them, you can toss to one side for the most part. They are a whole other animal.
They can be made to shoot very well. May just take a bit more work. I would say it applies to most all types of break actions. Got my first Contender (not a g1, no such thing) in 1985 and have been playing with them since. If you expect excellent accuracy with less headaches, I encourage you to look at custom barrels. Jeff |

I have a contender with a hornet barrel. I think it's 21" or so. It's pretty accurate inside 200yards. The twist is slow, so only light bullets work. The TC is a little harder on the brass than a bolt action. I think the frame stretches/flexes more, and the case heads fall off after 30 reloads or so. I bring along an M6 bolt that I can thread into the front part of the case to remove it from the barrel. I have a 1-piece steel base, warne qd rings.
So it's cheap, fun, compact, and pretty accurate. |

Break open hornets
I’ve had contenders with factory and custom barrels. Accuracy was so-so. Don’t expect anything near bolt gun accuracy.

H&R's often shoot one inch or slightly smaller. Ugly but work.

High 5 !! Flyrod 30 times a case for a 22 hornet, I got at best 10 firings until I got my first K Hornet and really learned annealing, TC factory Hornet barrels are 1-12 mine all shoot 35g Vmax the best but all will shoot 40 - 45 gr fodder very well under an inch at 100 if I do my part, Yes not all TC barrels will shoot that well but they do exist, My most favorite Hornet barrel is my 24" factory Encore barrel at 200 it shoots regularly 1.5" at 200 with 40 gr Vmax or BTs
So my suggestion is get a TC G2 Contender, as suggested get a custom barrel made ask for a tight chamber get it Ackley Improved from the start and enjoy lots of fun shooting |

My only experience with a .22 Hornet break action was with a Blaser o/u 12 bore over .22 Hornet. It was accurate with what ammo (factory & hand loads) it liked.
I agree get a custom barrel/chamber. I have found the regular .22 Hornet with a good chamber to be very accurate. My Winchester 70 in .22 Hornet with a custom barrel/chamber will shoot well under 1 inch. Good Luck! Jim |

I had a factory encore 22 hornet barrel. It shot between 1-1.5 inches. It got me hooked on the hornet but I must say my cz shoots big holes and is a repeater. The Tc went down the road

I have a NEF 22-Hornet barrel that shot pretty decent but eventually was rechambered to a 22 K Hornet.
Also have both 22 Hornet and K-Hornet in contender barrels both carbine and pistol barrels. Also have both 22 Hornet and KH in Thompson Center TCR. Can’t really add much to what’s been said but I do like the KH version a tad better than standard version because of a little longer case life. That said I can’t see me not ever owning a standard 22 Hornet.
