Default Shilen barrel.

Guys,

Ive been offered a select match stainless in 9 twist .204, it will be for a 20BR build.

Ive had the twist checked and its a true 9, can I ask what are your experiences are with this make and grade of barrel?

Many thanks

Al

Al. Shilen has always been right up with all the top brand/makes of barrels. I would thing you would be fine with that one. Bill K

Big Al, Bill K is right on about the quality of Shilen barrels. I have several and they all shoot well. The only caveat to that comment would be to make sure the barrel is a true 9 twist as you stated. A cut rifled barrel like the Bartlein for example are known for being correct on the twist desired. Having said that...I'd buy the barrel anyhow! 20 cal barrels particularly in 9 twist are usually hard to find on short notice. I've had two ordered for seven months and still waiting. Let's us know how you build goes. I believe you will really like the 20BR. TK at the Woodchuck Den usually has dies in stock. 410gauge

I have one of their standard featherweight barrels I finished in .17 fireball. I cut it to 18" and it shoots as good as any fireball can shoot.

I have a shilen brl 1/10 twist I acquired for my 20 vt build. Compares very favourably to the Lilja I use on my 20/250.
I personally don't think you would have a problem using that in the 20BR build that you are looking at.
Good luck with your build.

I've had 2 Shilen barrels - both light weight hunting barrels, a .458 and .257 Roberts and both shot well under an inch on Mauser actions with very little load development. They were excellent barrels.

Default Shilen

Hi Big Al,
I had a 1:10" Shilen medium sporter in .17 put on my Brno 465 in .17AH, and it is a cracker of a shooter.
Also have a .17 Shilen (1:10") on my Sako L461 in .17/222, very accurate, and great fox outfit.
I am very happy with the barrels I have from them.
