20 VarTarg
I think there is a pretty good handful of really neat 20 caliber cartridges to choose from. That being said, the VT is something very special. Thankful that I received so much encouragement from many here to give it a try!

40 Grain Bergers
Quote:
I shoot the 40 grain Bergers in my .204, never shot a praire dog but it does anchor groundhogs out to 400 yards real well. So I can't answer the splat factor question, but they do everything I need on groundhogs within moderate range. They're the only bullet I have used in my .204 since my initial 3 shot load test groups were under .25 at 100 yards. I probably could save money with other bullets but shooting less than 100 rounds at groundhogs per year, I didn't feel it was necessary. Stan |

Everyone who builds a 20 Vartarg never regrets it or looks back. Its my alltime favorite wildcat.

1) Amen to the above.
2) Chuck, I expect that the splat factor would be better with the Sierra 39 BK; everything I have read indicates that the Bergers open up a little slower than the plastic tipped bullets. |

This was the first 30 rounds fired out of my .20 VarTarg that Bob Green built for me with a Rock Creek 1:12 barrel. Load development was various amounts of H4198 and 32gr VMax. I couldn't believe how well it shot. I still can't! |

I have yet to see a custom barreled 20 Vartarg that wouldnt shoot bughole groups.

I am new to 20 cal with a 20TAC. A mullerworks and it SHOOTS! Thinking about a 20 VarTarg and have a question re brass...read that Dakota might offer brass as their 20 TAC brass is fantastic. Is the only source remington? Don' t have to weight sort Dakota 20 TAC...case weights were almost identical. Thanks.

Brass that I know of.
Remington 221 fireball, Nosler 221 fireball, and Lapua made a run, but is mostly sold out unless some shop has some holed away. I just picked up 200 more Lapua and want another 300+ Lapua from that first run. The only available option right now is Nosler brass. I think HSM makes 20vt ammo, not sure what brass they use.
