Default Got to meet Bughole...

I met Don at the VHA jamboree in South Dakota this past week.
Don was very generous and donated some of his very good bullets and hats
that got given out at the symposiums in the evening.I won some of the 95grn FB's and will report on how well they shoot in my rifle here.Later I was able
to see a group shot by Dave Todd with Don's bullets at 600 yds that measured 1.700".Quite impressive to say the least.Daves group was shot with the 80grn boat tail from the 6Toad.No doubt in my mind that these bullets are "spot on"

I haven't met Don yet, but really like his bullets. As soon as he gets the 90 grain VLD up and running, I'll be placing my next order.

Default Precision Ballistic LLC VLDs

Thanks for the kind words guys. Dave's tiny group with my 80gr BTs at 600 yards simply blew my mind! He is a great shooter!

I talked with my die maker today to get a feel for where I stood in the wait for my VLD dies. He said he burned three carbide seating cores yesterday that he will be working on to lap over the next week or so. These then go inside the tool steel body of the dies and will press the lead core into the J4 jacket at the same time the boat tail is started on the bullet base. He's hoping to finish those this month or next. He hasn't started the point up dies yet but those will be next, and it takes one of each to make VLD bullets. He is making these for myself as well as a couple other bulletsmiths, and of course has many other customers anxious to get the dies that they have ordered as well. I'm hoping to be able to start filling the orders for around 10,000 VLDs I currently have sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving, but that all depends upon getting my dies. I have several thousand J4s lubed and ready for them, and several thousand lead cores squirted and cleaned waiting to make 90gr, 95gr, 103gr, 105gr and 108gr. I apologize for the wait but I will just have to let everyone know later this fall when I'll be set to start making the VLDs.

In the meantime I have lots of 66gr, 68gr, 74gr, 80gr, 88gr, 90gr and 95gr in both flats and boat tails on the shelf. I have really enjoyed meeting with and competing with everyone at the Supershoot, VHA Jamboree, IBS South Dakota State Championship, Western PA Long Range Groundhog Match, and other matches I've been at this year. Tonight I made my first batch of ballistic gel and hope to get out over the weekend and see what happens when I poke it with my 95gr BTs. Hopefully I can do all my bullets and have them to show how they might do on live targets. Another project I want to do is to run tests to determine actual BCs on all my bullets.

I appreciate all the support from the members of this forum! Shoot straight and duck fast!

Bughole

Default Well Bill....

It is a shortened 6-284,lots of work to make too.
But it seems like it was worth it for Dave Todd.
There was a very nice article in the Varmint Hunter magazine about
the cartridge and the different rifles Dave has had built around it
some pics of Canadian 'chucks taken with it as well when Dave
went to the great white north to visit friends.

Default 6-284 Short...

How does it compare to say, the 6PPC. Like an average powder load with a 65 grain bullet. Just trying to get handle on its size.
Thanks,
Bill

Default Bill its in issue #68 with the coyote on the cover

The case c.o.l. is 1.900", 35 degree shoulder, with a .330" neck length.
In the article Dave talks mostly about how he had the rifle and dies built and
his goals for the cartridge, he does say that in his 28" 12 twist barrel
he shot 74grn bullets at 3760fps.He has since had other barrels chambered
with different twists, very nice article although somewhat light on reloading data.I look forward to his next article.
