Default Single feed small rounds?

Refers to my 20 TCM Wildcat project. Savage action, round has to be pointed UP and INTO the chamber before you even think about closing the bolt. Had to be a cure??
Somebody mentioned PT&G making single feed 700 type followers with an Remington XP 100 design? Got one, looks good.
Did the heat gun thing to remove the epoxied in follower. Will need to grind to shape the new follower, not much, just enough.
Round placed on follower, slight push and it points UP as it moves forward. Just might be the fix.

I shoot single shot as well on my specialty pistols. I have 2 Remington actions. When I put the first Davidson loading ramp in, it was flush with the bottom of the action. By pushing the round slightly forward, it raised the nose of the bullet and it worked fine. When I put the follower in the other action, the rear was slightly lower, 1/16, 3/32, something along those lines. It feeds without any issues. So, I removed the other ramp and installed it like the other, problem solved.

I had similar issues with a Savage straight feed and 17 Fireball.
I took a piece of scrap aluminum and turned it to the OD of the bolt body.
Barrel removed.
Mandrel in the action with some release agent on it.
I used epoxy putty.
Filled the empty spot with the putty and made sure race ways were clear.
Worked like a charm. Ammo goes straight into the chamber.
The hollow point bullets gave me a problem before. This solved that as well.

I picked up a single shot follower/magazine, I believe from Bob's Original Sled, works great on my savage actions.

The flat end of the breech is also part of your feed problems. I've been going to Kiffs cone nose bolts and a full length follower epoxied in place. My 17 and 20 Boomer (40* TCM case) feed like they have eyes. This summer I'm doing a 17 Squirrel on the Rem SA with one of Kiffs cone nose Hornet bolts, that should be the test.

Love this little round but it's a bit finicky to feed...single or repeater.

Not the same thing but after destroying 2 magazines trying to make my CZ 527 22TCM in to a repeater I gave up & got a Sled from Calhoun. Works great.

Savage is for sure an odd ball when it comes to "short rounds".
Did the mods to the PT&G single shot follower. Not happy with the results.
Finally (for now) reinstalled the single shot follower from Sharp Shooter Supply. As it is now, taped in place, with the front of the follower tipped "up" and still clearing the bolt head on closing, feeding is about 90% and the fact that I'am bench shooting, I may be able to live with it. Time will tell. For sure, a learning experience.

Great idea! I got some 3D printed ones from a guy, and I could not get any to work well even with a .223. I will have to try this!

I single-feed rounds in my varmint rifles because I always handload them with long, pointed bullets that are seated very close to the rifling. As such, none of them feed through the magazine.

With a Ruger Model 77 in .220 Swift, I am able to position one round in the integral magazine canted upwards, which serves as a second-shot option. However, I don't ever remember using the second shot on the coyotes it is intended for; one round is enough with the ole Swift.

I could probably do the same on a 591 5mm, but I hate the feel of a protruding magazine when carrying it in the field. It seems the removable magazine is just at the wrong point for easy carrying. So I removed the whole magazine mechanism in the 591 and use a rubber filler in the port. I don't miss having more than one shot with that rifle either, nor with its sister 592, which also has lost its magazine, a long and ugly tube under the barrel.

Of course, with the XP100 and Contender actions, the issue is quite moot.

The remark was made that the PT&G single shot follower for the Remington 700 actions was designed like the XP 100 action bottom? It is.
Thought I would give it a try. I did, didn't like the performance, so back to the drawing board.
That short "20 TCM" Wildcat round dropped into the XP action feeds like a dream.
Got the Savage action to feed (maybe 70/75%) with reliability just be pointing the follower "up" in the front. OK for now. Not sure how long it will last.
Still would like to have another XP to build into another bench rifle.
