Default Price Check - Redfield 8x32x40 Target Scope

Any ideas what this scope might be worth? I acquired it today. Its mounted on a very clean Sako L579 sporter weight rifle in 22-250, and its a bit more scope than I prefer on a rifle like that. I'm only guessing that it might be a time period scope that matches with the L579 Series Sako rifles, but I have no idea as to its actual age.......

The scope is clear and bright with a fairly thin duplex reticle and the adjustable objective moves easily with resistance like you would expect it to move. Focus/parallax changes with adjustment and was very clear at an object that I know is ~100 yards away. Overall, the scope looks very clean. I was not able to find any manufacturing information on the scope.

It has target turrets for windage and elevation and a front adjustable objective scaled in both meters (green) and yards (white). Scaled from <40 meters to infinity and from <50 yards to infinity.

I've attached three photos to give you a better look at it. The first is the left side of the scope showing the old Redfield Logo.

A couple of pics of the scope and rifle together......... If the rifle was a HB with a varmint stock, I wouldn't have quite as many thoughts of monkeys and footballs when looking at it.

I have Nick Strobel's Old Gunsights and Riflescopes ID & Price Guide but couldn't find a listing for anything newer than 1985. I guess it's post 1985??

Default Price check - Redfield 8x32x40 Target scope

BCB, since Leupold bought out Redfield, any chance, if you called them, that they might have some info on it, even though it appears to be a old model Redfield sold ? Bill K

Thanks, Bill. A phone call could never hurt. I'll try that Monday if necessary.

I do know that Leupold did not buy any Redfield assets belonging to others through several sales since the original Redfield plant closed in 1998. IIRC. Leupold only bought the right to use the Redfield name.

Default Price Check-Redfield

I did not know how the buy/sale went down, but are not Leupold putting together the Redfield line now ? I was thinking maybe a Redfield employee or something may have went or came to the Leupold company and maybe some info could be found on that scope.. As you say, might be worth a try. Maybe, just Maybe old Larry at Midway USA could have some info. Bill K

a scope just like yours sold on ebay in June of 2018. It was sold & shipped out of Canada & was in used condidtion. It looks like the original box & weaver rings were includes. Sold price was $457.27 with $30.74 shipping in American money. Here's the link:

Redfield 8x32x40

Hope this helps!

Dave, that does help a bunch. Thanks..!

The scope on this rifle is exactly as shown in the picture at your link minus the Weaver rings. The Butler Creek style eye piece lens cover came with the purchase but the objective lens cover was not with it. The Sako L579 rifle has the original Sako scope bases and rings on it, and I will utilize them in the future with whatever path I go with scopes.

I felt that the scope was more than just an entry level/toss it aside type of scope, but I had no real idea of its value. Your link helps a bunch. Thanks again.

EDIT: I Googled the Redfield item number from the picture of the box end that you provided and found this information about production years, 1997 and 1998, which makes it a very late Denver Redfield scope as the original manufacturing location did close in 1998.

Thanks again..!

I spent $3.99 this morning on Used Price.com where the box end from Dave's link showing an Item Number took me to see what the scope is worth in today's market. It shows a Current Used Market price of between $297.61 and $363.75. It had a listed Retail Price of $599.99 in the 1997-98 time frame.

The screen shot is kinda' blurry, but it is more easily readable if you copy the image and blow it up slightly in a computer photo editor.

I plan to shoot the rifle today as is to check it and the scope condition. After that the scope is coming off the rifle as its just too large of a scope for the Sako L579 rifle, IMO.

Thanks to Dave for the link and for the pictures of the scope at the link.

Looks like a pretty neat old scope. Might be worth holding onto.

Just saying....
