17 Javelina AR-15
Will a 17 Javelina feed in an AR-15? Kicking around the idea of an AR for a calling rifle.

Curious here but unless you're just wanting to have something different why not just go 17-222? May not have the same cool name but sure would make life easier.

17/223 ackley gets you into some very inexpensive brass, yes it will fireform in an AR, no the 40 degree shoulder doesnt effect feeding.
...and when you loose a piece of brass it aint no biggie |

A javalina should feed, with the proper set up and if that is what you want, then go for it.
However a 17 Tactical would be easier and really make your AR scream on varmints. |

Part of the reason to do the 17 javelina is I have the reamer and dies. I do have a 17-222 reamer as well.

I have both Aaron....
The first Javelina I had was built on a 700 Remington and with Todd’s 27 it was a coyote killing machine. The second one is a Cooper VE that was just taken out in nicer weather for pd’s.The Sako in 17-222 even with a relatively short barrel is damn near performance wise a 17 Remington. Like the general consensus I would tend to choose the 17-222 for an AR type rifle, because of the time needed to replace Javelina brass. The Javelina is sexier looking and closer to the perfect amount of powder space needed for the 17 bore, but the 17-222 is very easy to make and 222 brass is still easy to find.Your choice after all Aaron, but I would go crazy losing Javelina brass

Sounds like a nice idea, but I don't think that I would like to be tossing all of that hard to make brass all over.

I have come to the conclusion that it doesn’t seem to matter, I don’t like losing and it beating up my 17 rem and 20 Practical brass from my ARs. I finally got a 5.56 upper but really haven’t shot it enough to remember, but I’m guessing I’d feel the same way lol I’m just a sick brass junkie!
That said, the 17 Jav would be pretty cool and the perfect sized case for an AR. With a 17 triple deuce a close second.

The more I think about it the more I agree about flinging that 17 Jav brass into the snow to disappear. Now I'm thinking 6x45 since its so easy to make. Just can't bring myself to do the plain 223. Nothing wrong with it, just doesn't trip my trigger.
