Default BIB 40gr 204 Loading Data?

Just wondering if anyone has any data for Rob Robinett's 40gr 20 cal bullets in a 204? Started a series of test loads yesterday with 24gr H322. Didn't shoot bad, but not even close to what I expect out of this rifle. 3/8 to 3/4......the pressure indications at the primer appear to be way too mild. The primer edges are still radiused just like they were installed. Shot some factory Hornady stuff and the primers are flattened real flat all the way across, no cratering, but completely flat.

I am thinking that the load is not close to hot enough to tighten things up? This is a brand new build with a Lilja 11 inch twist bbl, Defiance Tenacity action, Jewell trigger and 8.5x25 Leupold.

If any of you guys have any thoughts on what to try next, sure would appreciate it!
Steve

What powders do you have? I use 8208, Benchmark and H4895 in my 20-223AI with 40gr, and that shouldn't be very different from a 204 I wouldn't think. I had a 204 briefly a few years ago and best load was with VV530 and 40gr. Couple other powders to consider are CFE223 and AA2520.

Default 204 loads

I have three custom barreled 204s. They’re Shilen and Lilja barrels and I only shoot 32 and 35 grain bullets. Benchmark powder has proven to be very accurate in them.

You just have to try various powders, in your rifle, with the bullet/s you want too use, to find what it likes best.
Mine love CFE 223 with the 32 grain bullets.

I've had great results with the 39 Grain Sierra and 8208 in a 3 groove PacNor
barreled 700.

I also vote for 8208 'IF" you have any. I have heard of guys using from 10X to VV540 with great success.

Default 204

I'd take a look at h-4198 also. Works well in my 20 Practical.

If you're having indifferent accuracy with H322 but no pressure signs...keep going up with the powder. H322 is certainly in the ball park for burning rate. Benchmark, the 8208's, 2520 and WW748 are all worth trying.

All of this assumes you're shooting over wind flags with a known good scope and the gun doesn't have issues....bedding, etc.

Good shootin'. -Al

Thanks for all the input guys, may be a week or two befor I can get to the range again. Am going to up the H322 gradually and see what happens. So far the bbl has about 30 rounds thru it. Cleaned it with Wipe-Out and got ZERO green or blue color on the patches.....did it 3 times. Got to wondering if the chemistry had gone bad in the cleaning agent, so took a bullet on a white paper towel and shot some Wipe-Out on it....cobalt blue pretty quickly on the towel, so thats a positive and says a lot about the smoothenss of the Lilja bbl! Very pleased about that! I may put my Leupold 24x benchrest scope on it, subject to further results with the 8.5x25.....recently acquired, not proven. Will keep you posted on results.
Thanks again,
Steve
