I am only going to say this one more time!! 243 Kenny
Them kids don't stay little very long. I just got back from a fishing trip with one of my kids in his 50s.

Not dismissing the 243, but I'm running a 70NBT @ 3200fps with 25.5gr of powder in my 6x45. What's that giving up? Cheap brass, low powder consumption, 2000+ rds of premium barrel life, it's a no brainer.

this kid (65+) was still shooting deer with a 6x45 up until a year or so ago. for kids no more recoil or noise than a 223 with a lot more knock down .it will knock the Tutti Frutti out of a deer out past 200 yards with a 80 gr bullet or the Barnes ttsx , most people don't let their kids shoot much beyond that.
the ttsx loaded to 2850 is still traveling at 2068 at 300 yards and when sighted 1.9" high at 100 is only 3.3" low at 250 and is still traveling at 2190.3 fps well above Barnes recommended minimum velocity of 2000 fps for expansion.

I like the cheap brass and low recoil. The 243 is great and the gun I thought about converting is a tack driving 243 that accounted for 10 deer including my little brother's first 5 deer one at a lasered 300 yds. It would be hard to pull the barrel of such an accurate gun that I stole for 150 dollars..... but I'm always looking for a better mouse trap. May keep the 243 as the gun to grow into and start the boys with a 6x45. When one is done with it give him the 243 and the younger can start using the 6x45. They are such an awesome blessing I can't wait to share my favorite past time with them. The youngest is a lefty ambidextrous kid so I have to wait to see what hand he decides to use. If it's lefty momma is gonna whine about the cost of an arsenal of lefty guns. but anything for my little guy.

He may be ambidextrous but he should shoot with his dominant eye side. I work with a lot of kids...a lot of kids that can't hit the side of a barn because of this. My biggest hurdle, the parents. Once I can get them out of the picture the results are startling, kids that thought they couldn't shoot..are excelling.
