Default CZ 527 - Magazine Difference in .222 and .223

Trying to determine if there is any difference in donor gun selected for a .20 cal conversion. Most likely candidate is used CZ 527 chambered in .223 Rem (readily available). However, if there is a difference in magazine size (suspect there is not) then I will track down a CZ 527 chambered in .222 Rem (more rare and fewer used).

1) Is there a difference in size (length) of magazine for .222 Rem and .223 Rem?

2) Is there a spacer added to rear of magazine on .222 Rem?

Thanks

I think you will find the 17HH, 22 hornet, 221 f.b, & 222 rem share the same magazine but with spacing blokes & the same bottom metal.

The 223, & 204 ruger are longer magazine and magazine opening in the bottom metal

I do not know about the 17 fire ball but the 17 hornet and the 22 hornet are the same magazine, you can not get a 223 in there?

Default Converting CZ 527 from .223 to .222

Guys - Thank you!

The magazine length is different for the .222 Rem as compared to .223 Rem.

Additionally, the bottom metal is same overall length (action screws in same place), but the magazine slot is shorter for the .222 Rem compared to .223 Rem.

I just l looked at CZ USA site and the bottom metal for .222 Rem ($90) is same used for .22 Hornet and .221 Fireball. The magazine length for these 3 calibers will be same but there may be differences in the follower or spacer block for each caliber.

Using the information gathered here, a friend of mine bought a 527 x 222 and thought he’d use the 223 bottom metal donated by a member here. However, it turned out the cutout in the base of the action was too small for the cartridges and would have needed milling out some. He didn’t want to do this, but was able to return the 222.

Default Converting CZ 527 to .222 but using 223 Mags & Bottom Metal

I have a couple of quick follow-up questions on this topic:

Anyone have any experience converting a CZ 527 chambered in .223 into a .222 using the original .223 hardware (bottom metal and magazines)?

1) Is the feed ramp the same for rifles chambered in .222 as the .223?
(I assume it is the same, but wondering is it was modified for the longer neck on .222's.)

2) Is there any concern or issue with the .222 cartridge releasing from .223 magazine prematurely, which may result in the tip of the bullet directly impact the feed ramp as opposed to shoulder of case?

As always thank you for insight.

I have a M1 223 been rebarreled to 17 Fireball no issues using the 3 rd magazine load feed and function fine. Its a little hard loading the magazine because of the Fireball length. It is a long way from back of magazine to the feed ramp. I mostly use single shot follower for bench work.
