17/44 Herret
I finally located a copy of Guns & Ammo (January 1981) where there is an article about Steve Herrett and how he came up with a .44 Magnum wildcat necked to .17. He got up to 4115 fps with a 25gr. bullet. Not a lot of reason to make one of those. That is basically 17 Remington performance, but I wonder if doing the same with .357 Magnum might be something to do. That could be similar to .218 Bee cased 17 wildcats but using plentiful .357 Magnum brass instead of hard to find Bee brass.

Would that not be the .17 Rem Super Jet?
ETA: .17 Jet is .357 length and super jet is .357 maximum length. Note there are different reamers out there from 30' shoulders to 32', and 40' Last edited by squirrel_slayer; 02-22-2020 at 01:32 PM. |

I don't know. I don't have any knowledge about that or any wildcats based on .357. Do you? If my idea seems good, then maybe someone has done it already.

Yes, the 17 Jet would basically be a 17-357 mag. I shoot the 17 Jet using 360 DW brass. And a long version of the 17 Jet using 357 max brass including a 17 Mach IV rimmed using 357 max brass.
The 17 Jet is a great round but I tend to like the larger Rimmed 17 Mach IV And larger yet 17 Wenzl Special (17 Jet run in deep) for shooting the 25 gr bullets using either ramshot xterminator or aa-2230. FYI the 17 WS is almost the same case capacity case as the 17 Jav Imp which is another favorite 17 of mine
