Default Rem. 700 Fireball extraction???

Does a Sako extractor fix the extraction issues with the fireball based cases????

I have been looking for a 300 blk out action, but have just missed the two that i have seen.....

Default 17 fb

I have two Rem 700s in 17fb, with stock ectractors. They both extract just fine.
Was not aware that this was an issue.

I built my 20 VT, starting with a 700, 223 action using the Remington extractor. It extracts just fine without any issues. Can't comment on feeding however, as it is a single shot.

If you have two Fireballs, then you already have the "fix" installed.

The very short cases of the fireball family of cases, when used with a standard 700 SA bolt tends to drop cases back into the action, because the case slips into the slots cut for the bolt lugs at 90° - when this happens, the case is tilted enough so it drops out of the bolt face and falls back into the action.

Bolts made for the 221 family of cases, eject the cases at a higher angle, so the case cannot slide into the lug grove on the way out.

Note the position of the extractor hook (red dot) in these two bolts - the .221 bolt extractor is approximatels 30° HIGHER than the hook on the 223 bolt extractor.

Has anyone gone backwards and tried the Fireball bolt on something like a 17 Remington/.223?

Leopold Scopes, Forester reloading equipment and Victorianox knives.

I video recorded all of my Highpower Rifle matches. Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle.

Yes. My 17 FB's barrel must have been cut first thing Monday morning. The chamber was so oversized and cut off-center that I never could get it to shoot. A friend had a Shilen 20 cal barrel so I had it made into a 204 ruger. Functions just fine but as noted above; it ejects the brass at a higher angle due to the extractor location. The brass does hit the scope knob though. A minor annoyance.

I should have stated, mine are factory fireball guns, so the fix as you stated is in the gun.

A while back brownells was selling model 7 receivers with triggers and 223 bolts. The receivers had 300BLK marked on them. I picked up a few to have on hand for projects. If you're looking for a new action though, I would suggest something smaller for the FB. Howa Mini, CZ 527, etc. I saw a 700 chambered in 22 Hornet once; it seemed way overkill for such a small round. $0.02
