Default I thought Gun restrictions in Canada Where Bad

I just heard the last gun store in San Francisco is shutting down because of the draconian Municipal laws being enacted, for instance all gun sales will be video taped and the tapes and full buyer info provided to the SFPD weekly.

At least in Canada the only ones that can set laws affecting purchase and ownership of guns is the Federal Government. Provincial and municipal governments can't mess with that at least.

I don't understand how U.S. law works so a question: How is it that you can have a constitutionally protected right to bear arms yet a town council can make laws that affect those rights. In Canada that law would get vacated immediately as outside their legislative preview and if they attempted to do it again they would be fined and censured. How is it that the town councils can do this down there?

Takes money to fight city hall. The owner chose to shut down rather than spend money to save a business which may not have been doing great. The local press, rather than seeing this bs for what it was, probably hailed it as "progress". As long as the people put up with it, it stands.

Dean, Remember what city it is. The same one that provides sanctuary for illegals that commit crimes against U.S. Citizens! The same area and state that elects people like Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Brown as their leaders! What the citizens of the U.S. can hope for is that the malady of mental, social, political and "hoping for a vote from some mouthy assed, well funded bunch of socialist scumbags" will not pervade the whole of the U.S., may be too late !

You must remember that these politicians, some mentioned in previous post, are following right along with how Hitler, Stalin and others did in the past. No rights for the citizen's and they do not believe in or follow the U.S. constitution and Bill of Rights, even tho they take a sworn oath too do so. They have a false sense that gun control controls criminals, when it does nothing of the sort, but it does punish legal/lawful citizen's. And their real agenda is to confiscated guns, not control crime. But even that will not work, as criminals will still have guns, while others are left as unarmed and unable to fight back VICTIMS. I have come to find that common sense can not be applied to politicians and government. If common sense ruled the 2nd amendment would be followed and cities and states shouldn't be able to superceed the federal government. It should be one set of laws accross the board. California has a sickness when it comes to their politicians. New York much the same. Many times the common folk are out voted by city liberals and ruin the rest of the state.

Dean, I am no legal expert but I will try to answer 'how can they do this' as I understand it.

Let's say there is a Federal law that states no individual may own more than three chickens. This means that nobody in any State may own four or more chickens. However, each individual State has the option of passing a law that is MORE strict than the Federal law. This 'option' carries on down through the County and Local levels. So, you may have a Federal limit of three chickens and a State that only allows two and a town that does not allow any. They have all met or exceeded the Federal law. If you don't like it, you have to fight your way up through the court system and see if they agree that your guaranteed rights have been violated.

Law is certainly not something that I know much about but, this is how I understand it to work in the US of A.

Anyone more learned than me, please chime in.

I think you freeze them first and use compressed air to launch them. I saw it on Mythbusters once.

You think your regs are tight ?, you want to come over here and see how you get on.

We cant normally own two weapons that may do the same job, say 222 and 22.250, you can have as many as you like in whatever calibers you like. Most people who shoot rifles here a lot will have 22LR, 20 or 22 centerfire for foxes and some small deer and if killing bigger deer something from a 243 up to 30.06 depending on species.

You will need a very good reason indeed to get a ticket for anything bigger than 30.06 unless going to Africa or similar. Then you may be able to hold a weapon but not usually ammunition for it. This needs then to be bought where you are using the rifle.

These have been found posted on various sites. It makes for interesting thought after reading. It is a sad commentary on the "now" America that has become a stranger to me, as I grew up in a Country that held Dear the conservative values of America from 1776 through the 1970's??
