Default I'm sorry,

But there is no way your going to close a bolt on a 204 cartridge in a rifle chambered for 223. The previous 2 posters are just being nice.

LOL..... And here over the years I've always thought that you were the nice guy, Chuck......

I don't have the official SAAMI head space dimension numbers for each cartridge handy, but a quick look through Richard Lee's "Modern Reloading - 2nd Edition", looking at cartridge dimension pictures, shows a head space distance of 1.565" for the 204 Ruger. The same dimensions for the 223 Rem is 1.467"

Counting on all of my fingers and toes, that makes the 204 Ruger case a full 0.098" longer in those stated dimensions. No doubt that would create some "fairly heavy bolt closure problems" as the picture I posted attests to.......

BTW - Its good to see ya' posting.

One the the late wife's cousins was an elk hunter.
Used a .30/30 which I felt and feel is way too small for elk
even though many have been killed with them.

I wasn't going that year and talked him into using my .300Win/m.
and provided a box of 50. Months after season we went to visit and get the gun back.

"I fired one and went right on, next one didn't sound right and split the shoulder so I quit and used my .30/30".
Yep, MY fault! Had gotten some 7mmags mixed in the box"

Didn't seem to hurt the gun any.

It can and will happen guys, be careful and check your ammo.
I found several more in other boxes too.
Jeeze, and I'd been loading and shooting 35 yrs by then.

I haven't screwed one up yet, but when I got a 7mm-08, I made sure I got nickel brass for it, since I already had so many 308 cases.

Took me 5 minutes to work out why I could not chamber a round in my 20BR, a 6PPC round had got into the 20BR box. As both rounds were loaded woth VMax and are of similar size it was a bit odd untill I got my glasses on.
